9 month old refusing to be spoon fed...

Little Ms. Independent has been refusing to be spoon fed lately..she only wants to eat things she feeds herself, like puffs, cheerios, etc. So I started cutting up her fruits and veggies and trying to let her feed herself, she spits them out. It's like she's tired of purees but isn't ready for table food. Chat Icon I don't know what to do to get her to eat..she can't live on cheerios and puffs. If I give her the spoon, hardly anything makes it into her mouth.

Is this normal? Any one else experience this? Should I be concerned? I know at this stage food is a learning process, but doesn't she need the nutrients too? TIA

Totally normal. It's an age thing. DD2 is doing this now too (she is 8 months). I give her a spoon and use a spoon myself and let her have at it. She gets a good amount in her mouth, and then I get some in too. I trade spoons with her like a game, I put a little tiny bit on the spoon and give it to her, then she puts it in her mouth. (or tries too LOL) Then I will give her a spoonful as well. Yeah, it's messy but she is at least eating it.

As for nutrients, they still are getting the majority of their nutrients from formula/breastmilk at this age so no worries there, IMO. It's all about learning at this age.

Last night my DD ended up covered in yogurt due to this issue!
She was freaking out about the spoon- not wanting to eat off if, turning her head, crying.
Then I gave her the spoon and she was happy as clam- but the yogurt ended up all over her face!
It's a rough age!

DS has been on all table food since 8.5-9months. He refused to be spoon fed and he did just fine! In the beginning it was alot of pasta, pancaakes, bananas, carrots(cooked), peas...etc...
