XPost: Did you wash these items before LO's arrival?

Did you wash the material of the following items before baby’s arrival?
Rock n Play Sleeper
Car Seat
Bouncy Seat
Swing

Some of these items seem hard to get the fabric off and i'm afraid I won't be able to get them back on. If you did wash them, did you take it all off and put it in the machine or did you just wipe it down while still on the frame?

Didn't wash the car seat, but I did toss the material from the bouncer and swing into the laundry.

Re: XPost: Did you wash these items before LO's arrival?

Yes, especially if it was made in china. I would read all of the labels though with washing instructions. Some (like the rock n sleeper) are surface wash only.

Yes -- I washed everything but the car seat (which I got from a coworker of DH's and she said she washed it before she gave it to me).

You're going to have to know how to get those fabrics off and on after the baby comes anyway (believe me -- I fed DD carrots for the first time yesterday and the first thing she did after she took a mouthful was let out a GIANT poop that escaped all over the high chair... and the number of times she's awakened all wet after 10 hours I can count on more than one hand... which means her rock n play sleeper was also urine-soaked). You might as well give it a whirl now. My bouncy seat is super simple... in fact, all the items you've mentioned are actually very easy to get on and off (my swing is, but I have a small, portable swing -- it's actually the most complicated of those items). I say pull and wash and put them back on. But apparently I'm in the minority.

I also wash all of DD's clothes (and mine and DH's) before she wears them. I'm starting to think I may be a little crazy, but with the terrible heat rash DD has all over her torso today, I'm really glad to know it's not because of something dirty she contracted from wearing dirty clothes that were rat pooped on or something.

Anyway... sorry for rambling. My short answer is yes.

The fabric that's removable on the nb rock n play sleeper is definitely machine washable. The underpiece is surface clean, though. Is that what you mean?

I remember there was a thread that someone on here managed to remove the underpiece and found mold on the plastic. I still haven't figured out how to get under that to clean but DD is only 5 months so I'm hoping there's no mold on it (yet). Once she grows out of it and I store it for #2, I'll get in there and give it a thorough once-over.

Same here. I don't have a Rock and Play sleeper.

Re: XPost: Did you wash these items before LO's arrival?

Yes!

All that could go through my mind is, how many hands touch that stuff before it gets to your baby. Not to mention dust and factory residues. Chat Icon

I stopped doing it around 6m. But for newborn I washed anything that touched him. I was so paranoid and scared.

IMO, I think it was more for my nerves than for the baby. Chat Icon
