We think Teddy is allergic to mosquitos!!!! AND A PSA!!!

The other day he got bit on his neck and it swelled up pretty big. Thank god I had some benadry melting tablets in my purse, (I don't want to think about what would have happened had I let it go). Well I thought maybe it was a fluke, well sure enough DH took him outside last night without any bug repellent on him and he got bit on the leg. I didn't know about it, and he came inside and was playing, suddenly I looked down and there it is a HUGE growing ball on his leg, (looked like a second knee cap) I quickly gave him a benadryl, and a half hour later it was the same size, I called the ped emergency line and he said to administer another dosage of benadryl. I did and it def got better. But just for every mom out there, keep some sort of benadryl in your bag. I swear I would have never guessed Teddy was allergic to a mosquitos. After speaking with the Ped he said it was great I had the benadryl with me because if he had been bit in the throat, he could have swelled so bad it could have cut off his airway. So please buy some benadryl and keep it with you, you just NEVER know, and it's always better to be safe than sorry.

DH is allergic to mosquitoes, he gets huge welts where he's bitten and they turn reddish/purple! He is miserable if he gets bit.

I'm glad you had benadryl on you. Try getting benadryl cream to administer too. We put that on DH to make them go down.Chat Icon

My dd has a strong reaction too.

We use the benedryl topical (afterbite?), a dose of benedryl when it gets bad.

Make sure to empty any pools of water (where they lay eggs) & cut back grass. Flower pots ponds, tire swings, etc are all breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

They melt in their mouths and taste better than the liquid (according to my 3 year old). They can also be chewed. But they do have topical benadryl!

My DD is also allergic...they swell up so bad and get all oozy and blister-y...Chat Icon

I don't leave home without benedryl..

Between my son's peanut and grass allergy and her bug issues...that drug is a magic drug in our household!

Glad it worked for your son!

Did the doc recomend a bug spray?

Glad you had the benedryl

2 years ago ex-h took DS to the beach at night and didn't tell me. He woke up with these welts on his arms/legs. Took him to the doc to find out they were just mosquito bites!

Hubby is allergic to all insect bites. And he is deathly allergic to bee stings. He has an epi-pen. His dr told him many years ago that if he had such a bad reaction to an insect bite, then he will most likely be allergic to bee stings. Sure enough he found out the hard way and ended up in the ER...Just watch out for bee stings...

How old do they have to be to take the benedryl? I tried buying it at Stop and Shop and asked the pharmacist which one I should get for DS and he said that he couldn't recommend one because DS is too young for it.

A thread on Home just reminded me to tell you to get Cool Citrus Basil body lotion from Bath and Body Works.

We used it on a vacation-the rest of the family was being eaten alive, and we didn't have any bites on us.

Our allergist advised my 6 month old could take 1/2 tsp up to a tsp for alergic reaction

Oh yeah its that time of the year again FOR SURE! AJ looks like she's been beaten by a bunch of bullies and is torn up all summer long if we don't use benedryl and bug spray AND tylenol to help with the swelling and pain.

We're already stocked. The benedryl stick, the liquid, Aveeno creams, California baby Bug Spray and new bottle of generic tylenol.

I posted photos before.. it brutal!

I actually bought nearly 12 boxes today! I got one for each first aid kit, (I make them myself and we have one in the car, in the diaper bag, in my purse, in the house, at DH's work, and in our second car.) One for the house, one for my purse, one extra for the car, for any place we travel frequently (ie family) I will provide them with a bottle. Yeah I think DH is right when he says I am overly prepared maybe even paranoid. Lol! I suggest putting it in your first aid kit also.
