An extra tooth??!? What the heck?? with pic
DD is 4.5 years old and complained the other day about her teeth hurting. I thought nothing of it since she has had her baby teeth for years. Then, yesterday morning, I look in her mouth and find a new tooth!!!!! It came in behind her baby teeth!!
Of course, I find this AFTER spending a week with BIL and his friend who are both dentists   .
Anyone's kids have this?? I find it so odd and it baffles me!

That is one of her permanent teeth coming in already...I had the same thing. My baby teeth in front never fell out and at age 8, I had to have all of them pulled. Not typical in most kids... My brother and a lot of my cousins also had them come in like that, but their baby teeth fell out on their own..

My niece AND nephew had to have all their baby teeth pulled. Their father had the same thing!

I just find it odd for two reasons:
1. I thought kids lose their baby teeth first then the older teeth grow in after that.
2. I thought this didn't happen until age 7 or 8. She's not even 5 yet!

Kaitee had this too. Its an adult tooth. After it cut in Kaitee lost her first tooth at exactly 4.5 years old. She just lost her second baby tooth and she won't be 5 until August!

Baby teeth become loose when the permanent teeth start coming in. Don't always see the permanenet teeth first though but they are pushing them from underneath.
There are several kids in my boys k class that are missing multiple teeth and mine have nothing even loose. Kids all loose their teeth at different times.

Actually...
My hubby has that. I guess you could say its behind his upper right canine? Its a spare tooth. The ones in front are proper and adult. The one is back is just a spare. Don't know what else to call it.
It causes him no pain. He just has to be careful to floss between THOSE teeth too and keep it clean.
They do NOT want to remove it because its on the roof of his mouth and would affect his cleft and speech pattern?
He said he always had it as long as he can remember and everyone assumed the one in front would fall out and it would move up. It didn't. But its never been an issue either.
Just giving you the alternative.
ETA: You can't see it unless he tilts his head up. haha I thought it was super cool!
ETA#2: I can't see the photo. I'm at work and our office blocks stuff like photobucket etc.

I have an extra tooth in the roof of my mouth, although it has never come in. We found it on an x-ray when I was going to get braces.
I think your DC's tooth might be the adult tooth coming in though, just out of place of where the appropriate baby tooth is.
My eye teeth did this, they came in before my baby eye teeth fell out. (I had to have the baby eye teeth removed).

Wanted to add, now that she lost her second tooth the adult tooth has moved forward into the right spot. I have pitures I will upload later. Kaitee's looked just like this a few months ago!

It took a few weeks to become lose(I am assuming from the new tooth pushing on the baby one) and once it was lose it took over a month to fall out. Her second lost tooth became lose a few months later and fell out shortly after.

Totally normal! In the dental world we call those shark teeth LOL. The deciduous lower incisors usually come out between age 5 and 7. Chances are the two front baby teeth will get loose very soon, as soon as they fall out her tongue will thrust that tooth into position.
I wouldn't be concerned about her needing to have the baby teeth pulled just yet, they have to be retained beyond the normal age before we do that unless the orthodontist wants it done.

That is what we called my niece and nephew b/c they waited for all of them to grow in before pulling them out!

This happened to me with my two canines as a kid ... and my Dad did call me "Great White" for a while My baby teeth eventually fell out on their own.
My boss's son recently had his baby tooth pulled because his adult tooth was coming in behind it.

Just wanted to add that my nephew just turned five on the 2nd and has already lost 2 teeth a while ago and some more are loose. The dentist said some kids lose them early

What Kelly said LOL Quite a few children in my DD's preschool class are losing teeth at that age. The chart that we follow says closer to 6 but that's not always the case. She's getting so big Katie!
