mushrooms on lawn

anyone know how to get rid of mushrooms on the lawn? recently they have been sprouting up like crazy, and i've been removing them only for them to come back. I tried googling it and it said to remove all the dirt where the mushrooms were, but i would totally destroy my lawn if this was the case. has anyone had to deal w/ this problem before? appreciate suggestions/advice! thanks!

Usually means your water is being overwatered. How often are you watering and for how long? They are the product of too much moisture. Correct that and I believe they should go away. Always did for me.

we water every other day so far for 20 min a zone (we have 7 zones). I'm not sure if its the actual soil itself though, but i'll test it out and see what happens.. thanks!

The sun will dry them out and kill them. It is from too much watering

I don't know about it being too much water. We have started getting mushrooms and we haven't started watering our lawn yet.

ETA: We have gotten a lot of rain though.

Good to know. I too, have noticed them popping up. I also have the white dandelions, not the ones that have the needles that blow, the other kind. Would love to know how to get rid of those too!

My parents had a big problem with them last year. Worse than I remember in nearly 30 years. My dad literally walked the back yard and pulled them out every single morning so the dog wouldn't get sick!

The area they got them has always been heavily shaded, so the sun didn't get rid of the moisture like it normally would. They cut back and took down some trees hoping it would help this year.

I would be certain to say it is from water. Are you in a damp area. Is it on a parrticular spot on your lawn? BC maybe you are having a drainage issue and water is just sitting. We always had a problem with mushrooms bc #1 we are damp and #2 we were overwatering. Now we cut back significantly on how long out IGS run. usually 10 min a zone.

We had a crazy amount of mushrooms last fall and it was because we were overwatering even though we didn't think so at first. We were watering every other day, but when it rains, that sometimes adds to it as well. Try shutting the sprinklers off for a few days (hopefully no rain also) and watch the mushrooms turn black and shrivel quickly!

Every other day is way too much, especially now when it hasn't gotten that hot yet. Lawns need 1 inch of water per week, preferably in one long watering, so the water gets to the roots and below to foster a deep, healthy root system.

I haven't watered my lawn at all this year, and I have mushrooms. It is in areas where I have too much shade, too much mulch, and hard compacted dirt.

White dutch clover is indicative of the same thing - hard, compacted dirt.

I'd get a trowel, pitchfork, and natural compost. Dig out the mushrooms, aerate the area with the pitchfork, and lay down an inch of compost.

Then I'd buy a rain gauge and if it doesn't show 1 inch of rain, change my watering schedule to once per week, for a 45 minute soak, in the early morning. That should give you the 1 inch of water you're looking for.

We've had concentrated clusters of mushrooms on our lawn because they were growing out of rotting wood. If that's the case, you can dig up the wood and it'll hopefully solve the problem.
