IN DESPERATE NEED FOR HELP

Hello Ladies,

I'm new to the LIFamilies site so I'll start with a big HELLO to all you mommies out there Chat Icon

My husband and I just purchased our own home, and we are starting from 0 meaning we got no furniture at all except for the bedroom sets.

Do you ladies know of any good but not as expensive furniture place you would recommend?

I would totally appreaciate all your help!

Thank you in advance!

Re: IN DESPERATE NEED FOR HELP

I have some really good stuff from IKEA actually. VERY inexpensive and pretty durable. I've done it for modular closets, desks, shelving. I've never gotten major furniture there.

Bob's is also very reasonable but I've heard mixed things about quality. my friend got his living room set there and it looks great, but he has cats and the wear IS showing. I have heard they have a protection plan though.

Often most of the furniture stores and department stores have deals where you have 0% interest financing for a year or more so that you can get a more exoensive set, but pay it off over time.

You need to kind of decide how long you expect this furniture to last. If it's "Starter" furniture, go with Ikea or Bob;s, use it now, wear it out in 5 years and get something great when you can afford it.

Re: IN DESPERATE NEED FOR HELP

I second Craigs List. You can get some amazing deals.

There are a bunch of places on Rt 110 in Farmingdale. We got our dining room set at Crystal Furniture and so far so good.

A lot of furniture stores (and I hit a lot of the ones on Rte 110 in Farmingdale) will sell floor samples. I got a really beautiful full formal dining room set made by Broyhill (china cabinet, sideboard/buffet, table with 2 leaf extensions, and 6 chairs) for a third of the cost of the set because I bought the floor sample, which was honestly in near perfect condition.

I have also had luck buying floor samples at Gothic Cabinet (mostly when I lived in the city), but I know they have them out here. We bought a desk, a corner unit for our dining room, and a hutch, all for a fraction of the cost.

Also, estate sales in upscale areas are great, especially if you like more antique or unique pieces that you can't find in a store. But you have to go early!

Good luck!

Re: IN DESPERATE NEED FOR HELP

Congrats on your new home!

I would check some of the thrift stores and Salvation Army stores as well.

My neighbors got a gorgeous brand new living room set (couch, love seat, 2 side tables and a coffee table) for $250 from the Salvation Army in Patchogue. It still had the plastic wrap on it.

Thank you Christine,

I never thought about asking if they sold floor samples. I will try that next time I go into their stores.

thanks for the good advice.
