Need Advice - Pregnancy & work related
I have been looking for a new job since before I became pregnant. I am only 3 months and not really showing yet.
I am in a totally different field currently and the manager there knows that I am working there temporarily until I find something in my field.
I had an interview today which I thought went very well. Since I am not showing, the owner has no clue that I am expecting. I wasn't going to offer the information either. If it turns out that he offers me the job, I was thinking I would tell him as I start to show. I would just explain that I did not want to ruin my chances of becoming hired had he known that I was PG. I will tell him that I plan on working all the way up to my deliver date and will return after maternity leave. He can hire someone just a temp until I return.
I am nervous because this is the first time I have ever been in this situation. I REALLY need this job.
I really could use some positive support ladies.
Edited: I forgot to mention this. Since I already have a couple of appointments scheduled with my OB, I guess I would have to reschedule them to evening hours. Hopefully, my dr. can see me after 6.
Or, would you just mention the appointments after the position is offered to you saying that you had prior Dr. appointments that were made prior to accepting the job??

Good luck with the job offer!! Its a tough situation to be in deciding whether to tell upfront or after the fact, At this point I would just wait to say something once you are offered the job (fingers crossed !!!), you start working there and for as long as you can hold out. At that point i would just nonchalantly tell them , just like you would your boss if you had been working there for years. I would not say that you didnt want to ruin your chances of getting the job bc that would make it seem like you purposely hid it from them, and may seem deceptive vs. just not having "come out" to the world yet. Thats JMO
Also, if you can change your doctor's appts to evening hours, I totally would. I have been working at my job for well over a year and still feel bad leaving early or coming in late for docs appt even though they are understanding, I wouldnt want to take advantage of it-- unfortunatly I havent been able to get evening hours for my first few appts so I sucked it up.. but if you CAN I would say try to do that, so your not starting a job and taking half days every few weeks.

Thanks! I agree with you. I won't say something like I didn't want to ruin my chances. You're right he may take it the way you mentioned. I just know that most employers don't typically want to hire a pregnant woman - like if they saw I had a pregnant belly.. I am sure my chances of being hired vs someone who was not, they would probably go for the non pregnant woman.
Praying I get this job though bc you all out there have no idea how much I need this job!!
Thanks for your advice! Keep it coming ladies!
