.by MTA LIRR on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 3:37pm.Signal Problem at Jamaica Expected to Result in Scattered 5-10 Minute Delays and Some Canceled Trains during Tonight’s Rush

Due to a signal problem at Jamaica Station, the Long Island Rail Road is anticipating scattered 5-to-10 minute delays through Jamaica and five canceled/combined trains during the PM Rush tonight. The signal problem is the result of severed signal lines on the west side of the Jamaica Station. The LIRR is working to repair the damaged signal lines as quickly as possible.

The canceled/combined trains out of Penn Station are:

¦The 5:19 PM train from New York due in Wantagh at 6:06 PM will be canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:24 PM train from New York that normally ends in Freeport but will continue to Wantagh.
¦The 5:40 PM train from New York due Seaford at 6:30 PM will be canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:47 PM from New York that normally ends in Freeport but will continue to Seaford.
¦The 6:05 PM train from New York due in Wantagh at 6:51 PM will be canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:10 PM train from New York that normally ends in Freeport but will continue to Wantagh.
¦The 6:33 PM train from New York due Babylon at 7:35 PM will be canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:36 PM from New York to Wantagh, which will be extended to Babylon.
¦The 6:04 PM train from Atlantic Terminal due in Ronkonkoma at 7:27 PM is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:07 PM train from Atlantic Terminal, and will transfer at Jamaica for the 6:21 PM train from Penn to Ronkonkoma, which will depart Jamaica at 6:41 PM.
For additional information, customers should consult the MTA website, www.mta.info/lirr and monitor television and radio traffic reports. Customers can also contact the LIRR’s Travel Information Center at 718-217-5477 (718-217-LIRR). If you are deaf or hard of hearing, use your preferred relay service provider or the free 711 relay to reach the LIRR at 718-217-5477.

The LIRR is bipolar bc I just got this:
LIRR expects the PM Rush to be normal. Please disregard earlier announcements of scattered delays and canceled/combined trains.

They are now saying disregard the earlier message; that the trains will be running normally.

True. My DH is at Penn, expecting to take the 5:24, and the 5:19 is running as usual.

The Babylon line also has the most trains, and the most specialized express trains (trains the only stop at 1-3 stops max to Babylon).

So that line can accomodate cancellations more than any other line. Port Washington line is the say way. Plenty of express trains to cancel/combine.
