Am I crazy?
There is an item on Horchow that I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE. I've been here before with this piece.
It will come to roughly $800 with shipping, tax, etc. PLUS, it's on backorder til June 22.
There is a seller on ebay that offers the same item for $575. They're located in Des Plaines, IL. It would take about 13 hrs to get there.
If I get to the warehouse and the item does not meet my expectations, no restocking fee - full refund.
Am I nuts to think I should go to Des Plaines, IL for a weekend to see a piece of furniture?
This is the item, I would use it as a media piece in my LR.

it's nice but with gas and tolls, you'll end up paying the 800 bucks in total.
IMO, if you love it, buy it.. it's a piece of furniture that you'll have in your home and can be used practically in any room of the house.. it's not like a shirt or a pair of shoes, kwim?

Yes Jenn, you're crazy 
You're definitely going to end up spending more than $800 in the trip to IL. Look for a coupon code online and just get it. If you hate it (which I doubt you will because it does look kind of awesome) return it and no love lost.
If you go all the way to IL and you don't like it, you're out the $$ for the trip!

Yes you are crazy. That is not that big of a savings to drive 13 hrs to buy a used one that isn't that hugely different in price.

also, do you use ebates? if you sign up and order it through there (it goes to the horchow store) you can get 3% back on your purchase as well - so you save some more $$..if you dont have an acct can you you use my email so i can get the friend referral? let me know and i will send you my email..thanks

I saw that discount. Even with the discount - it comes to $873 and change....
There is a mirrored piece I saw at Pier 1 that may work. It's a little too shallow but the piece would butt up against our baseboard so we could cut out the back and maybe build more shelf space behind, kwim?
It's $800 at Pier 1 plus they have a 30 day return policy.

it's a little crazy to do that, but if you L.O.V.E. it-- why not? PLan a fun little road trip around it-- it's a story to tell anyone who comes over and comments on how much they love it.
I did see some mirrored pieces also from Home Decorators.
