They definitely can cause damage. You never want insects in swarms that close to your house. I would call a professional exterminator if you think the situation is bad.

They sound like carpenter bees. We just noticed two of them in our deck and my DH is planning to spray something this weekend.

Re: bees- fat ones

They don't cause the kind of structural damage that termites do. They are more of a nuisance.

I have to disagree, if they are in fact carpenter bees they can do a LOT of structural damage my parents had them in there house after removing the siding they found that the bees drilled long holes like 10ft or more it was crazy looked like swiss cheese.

I agree. We have a carpenter bee hovering around our front porch and had some last year in our backyard by a wood structure. They can make some big holes (i also read 10ft tunnels when I did a search)

Even if they can't cause damage I wouldn't want them there. I would worry about my kids outside and getting stung.

Def. do a lot of damaged. I worked for an exterminating company and they did a number on a client's home. You should get them checked. There are several ways they can treat.

Re: bees- fat ones

Most likely carpenter bees if they hang around your roof. Yes, they do damage.

We use an exterminator every year for them.

Def do some damage... My parents found a hole in their dining room ceiling where bees were coming out--- the bees found there way into their house! The burrowed through wood and cement (the front of their house is brick) like 6 feet in!!!
