Washing dishes poll...

Since I have had family in town the past few weekends I really notice how different ppl can be with doing the dishes. I definitely think it is generational too. Both my mom and MIL completely fill the sink and pour in the dish soap to do them, I have really been noticing this is something my mothers generation and older do. I don't do this for a couple reasons. 1- I think it is unsanitary. The whole point of washing the dishes is to get them clean and kill germs. I do not think that by letting dishes and your sponge sit in dirty water is getting them clean. 2- I know many would suggest filling the sink saves water but I think it is actually the opposite. When you fill the sink you still have to let the clean water run to rinse- I simply skip the filling step. I just let the clean water run and dont fill the sink and then I use a brush/sponge wand with soap that dispenses out of it. I also notice that most ppl my age seem to do the same thing.

I am wondering what the majority of ppl on LIF do. Do you fill the sink completely or just let the water run?

Same here! I have always wondered why myself. I too think its unsanitary and pointless. I think you may be right in that its a generation thing. Chat Icon

Seems kind of gross to have everything stew in "dirty" water... but then again I'm the same with with taking a bath.. I always quickly shower off afterwards on the rare occasion I opt for a bath.

we primarily use the DW but if we are just washing quick we do not fill. My mom or MIL do not fill either.
