Do you get your CAC serviced every year

before the summer? DH wants to do it since it's our first summer in the house and we have no idea how this woman serviced it before, but do we need to do it every year?

Also, if you do who do you use? We're south shore nassau

you are supposed to do it twice a year-- before each season and turning on heat or ac for the first time.

I have someone coming tomorrow for the AC! We didn't have it serviced before the winter though.

We use Slomin's -- we're in N. Bellmore -- and we get it serviced once a year. I think they have been fine... DH handles it and all I know is that the CAC works come summer!

My DH said he heard Apple Air in Seaford is good, and we were going to look into them, too.

Do you know what exactly it is they do???
And when do you have them in, would now be too soon? Randi, I keep telling DH to do it now and he thinks its too early in the season!!!

Under the service contract, they do preventative maintenance: They check and clean the filters, check the cooling capacity of the system, if need be, they top off the coolant/refrigerant (may charge extra for that...) This is as per my DH, because I was truly clueless as to what they do.

If there's any problem with the system and you have a service contract, they'll come faster in the summer to fix it, obviously!

The service contracts usually run $300-400.

I think Slomin's is on the pricey side. DH said Apple is good and I think less expensive (and is rated "Best of Long Island," for those who care about such things).

You should get them in early -- like April -- to do the maintenance check. We actually haven't had it done yet, and we are running late this year. They book up fast, so I'd call soon!

Yikes this is our third summer here and we've never had it serviced...we were told to change the filters every 3 mos and thats it?

my parents dont either from what i know and my dad would have told me by now...they have had CAC for 27 years

This will be our 4th summer in the house and we've never had it serviced. We change the filters every 3 months and haven't had any problems.

the guy came and cleaned everything out, and flushed out the drain that the unit drains the condensation to the outside.

We never had it done in our apt, and had about 1500 worth of damage plus a leak and damage to wood floors in the last year we were there- mainly from previus owners and cat hair-- but it was never cleaned. I will never not take care of something like that again.

It cost abut 125 bucks to have someone make sure it's in tip top shape so it lasts- ours needs to be replaced so baby-ing it will help so it doesn't happen this summer!! Damage may be done, since the previous owners in this house didn't maintain it either.
