Gutter cleaning and a leak

I scheduled a gutter cleaning because I had a leak and there is a possibility this could help. I mentioned to the person on the phone that I may have a leak and I hope this fixes it. He said well if it doesn't have has roofers he can refer. Great..so I thought.

DH is mad at me for saying that to him. He thinks they will go up there and poke holes in our roof and they are all in with each other to make money off of us. I never should have said that.

I told him I don't subscribe to that paranoia. These guys installed our gutters and have cleaned them before.

He is still not buying it. Now we canceled that appt but he called others and they are all $$$ and can't come for a week. Some said they would leave an estimate and then we can schedule.

This could go on for weeks and how many more rainstorms will we endure?

I'm afraid of an even bigger issue if we let it go.

Your thoughts?

We are at a stale mate.

He says he will go up on the roof this weekend and check it out. He is NOT handy at all.

I think your DH is being super paranoid. There are honest people out there.

He is not convinced. He wants to "research it". He called 8 gutter companies.

He has lost his mind.

It ain't like buying a car...it's the gutters..they get dirty..they need cleaning.

Oy!

It's not going to benefit them to poke holes in your roof unless they would get paid for that repair so I think that's a little paranoid...

Re: Gutter cleaning and a leak

I can't picture a company doing that. For all they know, you have pics of your roof, and are "testing" their honesty for a reality show or a "Shame on You" type thing. If they were ever caught doing something like that, they would never work in that town again, and they know that.

Plus, a recently created hole looks much different than an existing, leaking hole. An existing hole will have water damage all around that spot, both inside and outside. You can't fake that in an hour.

See, that's something we as non handy people don't know. He is being super paranoid. I'm trusting but not stupid.

He's nuts. But he's digging his heels in and won't budge.

Then when I explained that we may be waiting weeks to get this done while he gets his estimates and does his research and if it rains a lot we could have more damage he said, well that's not my problem...

Really, who's problem is it?

He totally spins his wheels on this stuff. I just want it done.

You know we are going to end up calling the original guys back.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Gutter cleaning and a leak

My original gutter co is coming tomorrow.

After DH called a bunch, only one put an estimate in our mailbox for way too much money.

He gave in. Now if they poke holes in my roof I guess that will be my fault.

Yeah, holes in my roof....Chat Icon

OMG! Now he wants to be home while they do it so he can inspect the work.

I guess he's going up on the ladder to inspect.

I just can't.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Gutter cleaning and a leak

We had problems with our roof leaking where we have an extension. Got a new roof, still had leaks. The roof company came several times and we still had leaks.

The problem was really the gutters overflowing. We have trees in the back and even though we cleaned the gutters, they would fill up again quickly. We got screens put on the gutters and have not had a problem since. You made the right decision.
