Quick: Anyone know about washing machines crapping out?
I was doing a load of wash this morning and the washing machine just stopped working. It's not a breaker or anything like that because the drier that is connected to the same outlet is running.
We unplugged it and plugged it back in and nothing. It's just sitting there with water in it now and won't do anything.
I'm not sure how old the machine is cuz it came with the house. A kenmore from Sears.
This could also turn into a MAJOR problem if we need it replaced because we don't have an outside entrance to our basement and the stairs/doorway to the basement is too narrow to get it out and a new appliance down there.
(Well we probably can but it is going to be a huge PITA and we may need to get something a lot smaller).
We think the last homeowners had the washing machine/drier installed before they renovated the house with new stairs to the basement.
HELP!!!!!!

It might be the pump if the water wont drain and it will probably be not worth it to fix it. Lots of times fixing it is almost as much as buying a new one.

That's what I figured. I swear, it seems like everything freakin' goes at once around here.

Re: Quick: Anyone know about washing machines crapping out?
When ours stopped working, we ended up calling a repair person. The price to fix it was over half the value of the machine It was our fault that the water was stuck though because we didn't know there was a filter in the washer that was supposed to be emptied every month. We only knew of the lint screen in the dryer. We learned our lesson the hard way!
If you want to find out how old the machine is, maybe you could call sears with the model number and see if they can give you any ideas?

I called my dad and something like this happened to them a few months ago. For them, it was a switch that just needed to be replaced. He said if you are handy it will cost you $20.00 to do it yourself. We have a neighbor who is a plumber who owes us a favor, maybe he can help.
I will probably call Sears though too.

Do you have an automatic shut off - of do you have to turn the water on and off each time?
That happened to us and our washer was only about 13 months old. It turned out that the box went and the electrician said it happens all the time with them.

I'm not really sure what that means. It has the dial that you pull outwards and turn for the different cycles.

One time a plastic hanger from a pair of socks clogged the drain.
If you need a good repairman call Phil (631) 661-6261. If it's not worth fixing he'll tell you before trying to fix it.
