As most people on here know, I'm the solar go-to guy on LIF. I had mine installed just over 2 years ago. I love them, and tell everyone that I can about them. I've been a part of the Solar Tour on Long Island, and I plan on being a part of it again.

As soon as I save up a little money (after the numerous other home projects.... Chat Icon ), I plan on adding solar hot water panels as well.

Feel free to either ask in here, or FM me. There's very few questions I won't be able to answer for you.

Re: Solar PV

Thanks for the replies.

Rod,
I have many questions.
- Can you keep me updated on the Solar tour or point me to where I can get the info myself?

- What was your avg KW/hr usage before and after the install?

- What's your home's sq footage?
- What size install do you have?
- Before and after rebate costs?
- What PV manufacturer and installer did you use?
- Can you provide the model #s of the major components? Panels, Converter, etc...

I think that's it for now.
I understand if you feel that some of these questions are too personal and would rather not answer them.

I don't have panels nor do I work for the industry. I'm considering them and have done quite a bit of research. The only thing missing in my research is personal experience from those who are currently using.
Thanks,
Bobby

Re: Solar PV

Some of the info I'll have to look up, but I'll get you all the info I can over the next couple of posts....

This year's Tour is Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 10am-4pm.

I honestly don't know why they do a solar tour, which obviously is about panels mounted outside, in the colder weather? Chat Icon It's about the same time of year every year.

House: ~3000 s/f
Panel capacity: 8100 kw
Before any rebates: ~$60k
After LIPA, state and Fed rebates: ~$19k
Manufacturer of panels: SunPower
Installer: http://sunpowersystems.net/ Sunation

I really liked that company, and am definitely going back to them when I do the solar hot water.

I'll have to get back to you on the model numbers, and the energy usage. I do know that the panels are covering about 2/3 of our usage over the year.

Re: Solar PV

wow.
Rebates covering 2/3 the cost is amazing.
I have a freind who recently became a certified installer and is constantly on my back about getting them installed.

Seeing your numbers, the only thing holding me back is that we want to dormer the house so there's no point (at least as far as I can tell) in putting on panels now only to change the roof line.

Re: Solar PV

The LIPA rebates are less now than they were 2 years ago, so you won't get quite that much covered.

We had ours installed during our extension project. We doubled the roofline, and rolled the project cost into the reno.

I have 6.5K solar panels on my barn roof last June and am about to have more put on next week. Green Logic did the original install and will be adding to it.

It's impossible not to. Any power we generate is that much power we're not buying.
