question about inducing

I will be 39 weeks on thursday. was by OB today. been having lower back pain and completely irregular and random contracitons since sun night. I am about 2.5-3 cm, and cervix completely soft, babys head really low.
OB did a sono- said baby is measuring about 8 pounds, and fluid on low end of normal. not dangerous, wihtin normal, but lowish. said not a medical NECESSITY to induce yet, but he woudl be compfrtable getting hte kid out already. this is #3, btw. offered to induce tomorrow. If I want ot wait, he want to see me agian thurs, repeat sono. if fludi drops at all, induce. if not, I can wait, i guess, but i think he really want to induce.
anyhow- i decided to wait until thurs, but now am leaning toward inducing thurs or fri. woudl you? do you think i shoudl have just done it tomorrow?
also-if oyu were induced and already dilated and effaced, hwo was it? hwo long was the whole thing? did you get cervidal too, ro just pitocin? forgot to ask OB

Re: question about inducing

I've never been induced and generally think it's a good idea to wait unless there is a medical reason. Honestly, I think you will probably go into labor on your own pretty soon from what you are saying.

From what you have said your Bishops Scores look good (google Bishops Scores -- they will indicate how likely a successful induction is), so hopefully you would have a good induction. But an induction does increase your risk of a C-section, so you really need to weigh this possibility if you agree to an induction.

If you are worried about fluid keep drinking water. Many times low fluid on a sono simply means the mother isn't drinking enough water. This may be the case with you. Best of luck!

Re: question about inducing

I was induced at 39 weeks. I was given cervidil and then pitocin. I was 1 cm dialited and 50% effaced.
Cervidil went in about 1230 am and taken out about 7 am, pitocin was started about 9 or 10 (I can never remember). I was still only 1-2 cm when they started pitocin. By 4 pm I was 4 cm by 7 pm I was 7 cm and at 720 I was 10. DD was born at 729 pm. The whole thing took less than 24 hours.
