we have electric - we pay $250 a month all year round (budget billing), but that's for all the electric in the entire house (2500 sq feet.) I have 2 kids that always leave lights on and we always have the a/c or heat on.

We have a 2800 sqft house. Forced air. Brand new heating system with a humidifier.

We have a wood stove so we only turn the heat on at night.

But we have a 400 gallon tank and to fill it is around $600 to $900 dollars, depending on the contract we signed for the year. Before the stove we were paying approx 3K for heat for the year.

25 year old house, 2 story 5 bed 3 bath.
Oil heat with 7 year old system.
We use COD oil, we spend between $1500-$2800 per year on oil depending on the price per gallon, this year was was high.
We also have a wood pellet stove to supplement & conserve oil. we pay just over $300 for 1 ton of pellets that last an entire winter.

We have no option for natural gas here.

Re: Poll: Type of Heat and Cost

We converted to gas a little over a year ago and it's definitely saved us alot of money.

But probably the biggest saver is the wood stove we put in our house it's been a HUGE money saver. We have about 2400 sf and it heats the whole house. We've only ran that throughout the whole winter and maybe had to turn the heat on 3 times at most! The only use we've needed the gas for is our hot water heater so far Chat Icon

Re: Poll: Type of Heat and Cost

we can't covert to gas...we have a 2200 sq ft splanch with a boiler only 4 years old. We do COD oil (cheaper) & our last fill up was $752. We spend anywhere from $2000-3000 a season depending on the oil prices for the year

Re: Poll: Type of Heat and Cost

My house here in NY is 2750 sq, 5 bedroom, 3 bath and it has oil heat.

I have a "new" burner and hot water heater that was installed in 2007 and a 550 gallon tank.. I spent roughly $2500 -3000 for the year between (COD) drops, yearly maintenance contract and electric bills Chat Icon

We have 2000sq ft ranch, oil heat,
newer burner.

We've gone through about 100 gals a month during Dec, Jan and Feb. Last year, we did COD and it was cheaper but last Fall we locked in at $2.79 (so glad we did!). So we paid about $300 a month for the coldest months this Winter.
