Re: Does the street name really matter?

Unless it's Azzwipe Blvd. or something comparable, I'm OK with it for the right house. We looked at a house on a street in my neighborhood that I still don't know how to pronounce the name. There are 3 different versions out there, including people on the street. That's sort of annoying but liveable for the right house.

I couldn't live on Elm Street, I have horrible visions of Freddy!

Otherwise, I don't really care much about the street name.

Re: Does the street name really matter?

We keep eyeing this house on MLS but the street name is Woodcock Lane....I'm an immature person by nature so I think if we ever bought the house, I'd end up giggling every time I gave someone our address.

I always laugh when I see Hyman Avenue. If I lived there I would not be able to give my address with a straight face.

Re: Does the street name really matter?

For us it actually took a house out of the running (we were kind of deciding against it anyway)...

One of the pronunciations of our last name is 'skank' (terrible, I know...we don't pronounce it that way) and a house we were looking at was on Leuce Place.

We didn't want to be The Skanks of Loose Place Chat Icon

Re: Does the street name really matter?

I am not going to lie, I would be disappointed if the house I loved was on a street with a terrible name. But it probably wouldn't stop me from buying it.

Re: Does the street name really matter?

It doesn't but it does...When we were looking we found a house that we like on a street that when you translate it from our language to English, it translated to male genatali. Couldn't find myself living on P*nis lane. It was too much. Thank GOd because we found the house of our dreams soon after.

There is a street I always used to pass whose name used to make me cringe because it has the word "Gun" in it.

I always thought Chat Icon I don't think I could live on that streetChat Icon

Then my DC's became friends with a lovely girl in their class who lives on that street. I really like the mom. We were invited for a play date...

Re: Does the street name really matter?

I live in Queens so most of our streets are numbers, but this is not something that would bother me.

Re: Does the street name really matter?

I think it depends, and is part of curb appeal in a way.

I grew up in Queens, where i had a number street. Then, when we moved to LI, I lived in a town house development with an undesirable address because it was off of Sunrise Hwy, so that was technically our street.

I love that I have a pretty street name now.

Not at all to me, could really care less......if I loved the home how bad could it be? Wouldn't stop me if I loved the house for a second.

Re: Does the street name really matter?

I never really thought about the street name when looking. our current street and our last name differ by one consonant sound - I honestly didn't realize it for a few years. I think b/c DH has always made up new names for the streets we have lived (i.e. via Mallorca = via Marshmallow - and this is from a native Spanish speaker)

There is a street in my town called "Weesuck Avenue"...It's backed by Weesuck Creek....It's all Native American, but DH informed me that he will never live on that street!

To me - it doesn't matter too much, though I do tend to be drawn to Pretty/Cute names...I grew up on Central Ave, so I'm always fascinated by more interesting street names.
