Re: Arborvitaes

Where did you see this ad? Do you know what kind of arborvitae they are? We're looking for about a dozen of them ourselves (we're interested in the Emerald Green.)

And yes, I've seen people build a berm and then plant the trees within the berm. How high do you need the trees to be? Depending on the species, they can get pretty tall.

Re: Arborvitaes

That sounds like a good deal - just be aware - sometimes they turn completely brown.

It happened to my BIL and some of my neighbors - drive around and look - you'll prob see some in your neighborhood. It's like they're diseased or something.

Another option is the Leland Cypress - a bit fuller but tall as well.

It was in the Pennysaver for the Emerald Green. Some place on rt 112, I"m thinking Patchogue. It almost seems "too good" to be true. We'll probably go there and Cheap Sam's this weekend. I'm just worried I'll get the wrong ones and they won't grow!

I've been going back and forth with them to get quotes. That's good to know the quality is good!

Arbor Vita are nice, especially as a barrior; Be aware that they can get bag worms. Mary

I jsut wrote in the other thread, to Dita, that my previous landscaper did not want to use them in my yard b/c they get infested/diseased more so than other types of Arborvitae.

Re: Arborvitaes

Just an FYI (especially if you are getting a lot) that Home Depot, Costco and I think Lowes guarantee their plants for a year. I believe that Costco gets them in around this time of year, but I don't remember the price.

If one (or all of them) happens to die, you can bring back the dead one and get your money back.

The place on 112 in the Pennysaver is probably Garden Dept in Coram. They usually have great prices on mulch as well. I use them every year.

Re: Arborvitaes

We called Cheap Sams and they were the most expensive out of every nursery/garden center we called. They were asking $70 for a 6'.

We ended up going out to Stables in East Moriches and picked up a bunch of Emerald Green 6' @ $40 a piece. They also have 6' @ $30, but they're not as full as the $40.
