Why is house buying so stressful!!!!!!
Hey everyone. I dont post too often but love reading all the posts. We put an offer on a house we love on Tuesday evening starting $20k lower than asking. There were 3 other offers also. So after counter offering a few times that evening the owner said she liked us and if we came up we would basically get it so we went up to asking price. Yesterday 1 other person matched our offer so we upped it and the other person walked away and the 3rd person was not responding so i was told i would have an answer this morning. This morning i am told the 3rd person is up $1k more than us. I told them i want the house but i am not getting into a bidding war. So they are going to get back to me soon as to what we need to do to get this house. Any advise for me?????
TIA to anyone that reads this. Just need to vent.

Re: Why is house buying so stressful!!!!!!
It was hands-down one of the most stressful things I have ever done in my life. I never want to do it again.
I think that's common though..and it's worth it when you end up with the house you wanted.

Re: Why is house buying so stressful!!!!!!
It was fairly stress free for me because I had to keep reminding myself to keep all emotion out of the house buying process. Fortunately the wife was pretty much on the same page as me.

idk, to me it seems like you've already engagedin a bidding war.

I don't know. I personally would not go above asking price...but that's just me.

Re: Why is house buying so stressful!!!!!!
Thanks for the responses. We came up because the owner said if we did she would be happy to sell to us. We were pre approved the others were not seemingly. So we were not really bidding against people as such. Now this other guy just wants to go up a few hundred dollars more each time and i wont do it. We both want it so i suppose i am just venting and i hope i dont have to walk away. I have done everything they wanted so i want them to tell me how much and i will do it. (within reason). She also wants to get out quick and we are in a great position to close asap. It is the 1st house in a year of looking that we both love. But then again it is probably the same for the others!!!
The waiting game continues....

Re: Why is house buying so stressful!!!!!!
Can I make a suggestion?
Try and play on the sellers emotions. If she wants to sell to you talk about how much you love the house and how you imagine your children playing here and all that, but you really don't want to get into this bidding war for a few dollars here and there and would like to ask her to accept your offer as is. No more negotiating and no more back and forth so that you could all take the next step and sign the contract.

That tactic will actually work against you.
As a former house seller... believe me when I say I have no emotions like that.
If I see a buyer tell me "how much they love the house"... I am going to increase my price because I know that you WANT the house.
The best thing to do would be to simply not show interest in the house and be willing to walk away. Then they will come back.

Re: Why is house buying so stressful!!!!!!
The seller is a little old lady so the agent told her we were newly married couple etc etc so we did play on her emotions. We even spoke with her ourselves too. After we did she told the agent if we came up basically it was ours so we did. But now there are more offers. The house has been on the market 5 days and she has got all these offers already so i think she is clever holding out and she is doing the right thing for her. BUT NOT FOR us.

Re: Why is house buying so stressful!!!!!!
We got the House
The other buyers wanted to go just above us every time so the Realtor explained neither of us would go much higher that it was just a game.
She said we reminded of them when they bought the house and she chose us.
I am so glad i didn't keep going up and that we had a great Realtor to deal with.
Now let the fun begin.
Thanks for the advise ladies.
