Introducing yourself to your neighbors...

How did you do it when you first bought your home?

Jason and I sat on the back of his car waiting for people to come say hi to us.

at one point i stood up and was like...HI!! I'M NEW HERE! Come say hi to me! lol

but i had a housewarming party and invited all my neighbors. I made a cute flyer with a poem and put it in everyone's mailbox. the majority of them came, if anything just to drop off a bottle of wine and to introduce themselves.

I didn't go out of my way to introduce myself. We took walks around and said hello, but that was about it. However a few came out and introduced themselves to us, we even got a bottle of champagne from one couple. It was really nice, although at the time I thought a some of them were just being nosy...

1 neighbor had a BBQ a few weeks after we moved in & they were nice enough to invite us so we could meet all the neighbors. We met neighbors from 4 or 5 houses that day.

Others we've just said hello to and introduced ourselves while out walking our dog.

We have an elderly couple on 1 side that I brought cookies to for thanksgiving (introduced myself then).

Our older neighbors all stopped by to introduce themselves - which was really nice.

As for the younger neighbors, I met them randomly over the 4 years we lived in our house. We also got invited to some local block parties last summer which helped.

It's been easier for me to meet neighbors now that I have a kid and a lot of them do as well.

we didnt go out of our way to introduce ourselves, but if a neighbor was outside when we were outside, we'd say hi and just chit chat for a little. the same week we moved in, a neighbor put a flyer in our mailbox for a jewelry party she was hosting. i couldnt make it, so i went over to her house to introduce myself and say thank you for inviting me.

about a month after we moved in, we had a housewarming party and invited the couple next door cause we've been the most friendly with them. and we're still close to them. the husband came over in the winter to watch football/hockey and we just got invited to their ping pong party at the end of this month lol.

We were lucky to move in around the same time as the pple across the street from us so we became close. They have older kids and got the know the neighborhood b/c of it so they invited us to their daughter's b-day at the house a few weeks later. We met a lot of the pple in the neighborhood then

It also helped we moved in Sept and I'd walk Mason around the block a lot and just say Hi to pple. We moved to a cultasack so pple are just outside in the streets regardless.
Also, DH talks EVERYONE and helps out. Sometimes he tells pple just to come in... even if I'm in my ugly PJ's and no makeup

I was hoping we would have met more neighbors at this point. We moved in right before winter started so that could be part of it. I know the first names of the people that live next to us and we say hi whenever we do see each other. Otherwise it's more of just a wave if we are outside when someone walks by.

One of our neighbors came by selling girl scout cookies and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to introduce myself, which I did. They seemed nice, but not interested at the time. I'm hoping with the nice weather coming we'll meet more people!

We moved in at the end of Nov so we met a bunch of ppl that first weekend while raking leaves. Then with all the heavy snow we got this winter we met some more while shoveling. Then DH just met another couple when he went running after the Mr. Softee yesterday. LOL!

We haven't personally gone to knock on anyone's door and only one neighbor came over and knocked on our door. It's mostly whoever is outside when we happen to be outside.

We met most of them when we were moving in. Many came by to introduce, offer a hand and give wine. We met more when we started walking around the neighborhood with the kids - and even more in September at teh bus stop! There were still some we didn't know - but we got acquainted at the block party!

It was hard, because we moved in January 2009, and it was a very snowy and icy winter.

We had a newborn, and a lot of the neighbors seemed to know that a younger couple was moving in with a baby. So a few people came over to see the baby and bring baby gifts. Once the weather got nicer, we were outside a lot, taking walks, etc., and we met other people that way. The baby was a good conversation starter!

I didn't go out of my way but did introduce myself to the ones I saw and chatted here and there. Then my next-door neighbors had a holiday party and invited us and we got to meet slot more of the neighbors. Weve been to several get togethers since and have grown very fond of our neighbors. One of them is wine maker at the wineries and another is the founder of a great community garden that is starting in out downtown. It's such a great little community we have here. If youmhave pets a good thing to do is get out and walk your dog or just take walks. With the weather warming up I am sure many will be outside

we had a few people come over here. And after we did some landscaping out front, which actually revealed the front door to the street- I literally met 4 neighbors when I was outside paying my landscaper because everyone came over to say how great the house looked. We still haven't met everyone, but now that the weather is getting better-- I'm sure we'll be outside more.

We met them on the day of the walk through, but hadnt seen them again for months. We moved in toward the end of fall, so no one was really outside. We decided to have a neighbor cocktail party and invite everyone as a getting to know you cocktail party. Most of them came. It was nice and I think the neighbors appreciated it.

We moved in during the winter and I had just had twins so I was never outside. My husband has met a few people and slowly I am meeting people as the weather is getting nicer. Hoping to meet more though.

we did meet one of our neighbors when our tree in our backyard was on fire but that is a whole different story

They came to us. We know the neighbors on one side of us, the ones across the street but ont he other side of us, they are anti social. Though they won't be when the Town comes and slaps them with the expense of tearing up the sidewalk and the tree that Abby keeps tripping over

I only have like 4 neighbors. But 2 of them came to us.They knocked on the door and gave us a ton of baked goods and welcomed us to the street.. Out of the other 2, we wave hi to 1 and the other we rarely ever see

We didn't go out of our way to introduce ourselves when we bought our first home. The HOA board had a welcome meeting with us where we met the board members and then there was a condo association meeting later on where we met others. We just introduced ourselves to people as we came across them outside.

We now live on a farm in NC, and we met our (few!) neighbors casually while we were outside. That's pretty easy to do when everyone's on a farm and outside a lot of the time.
