Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
My friend is having two rooms painted in her house tomorrow-- I advised her to get natura paint because she is 7 months prego and has a 2 yr old whose room is actually being painted. Zero voc, no smell, safer for them both, etc.
She will be out of the house with him all day-- she's a little concerned with sleeping there tom night though. I told her I would if I was her, but thought I would ask here to see if anyone had any insight.
Thanks!

We painted with Natura with my kids (toddlers) and infant in the house. Couldn't even tell they were painting. Needless to say, we didn't sleep elsewhere.

Re: Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
I know someone on here complained that the Natura smell did exist and would not leave thereafter (itsbabytime). That she also read many complaints online about it smelling despite the fact that they claim it should not. But plenty have used it and said yes, no smell. Search LIF for Natura.

Re: Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
I painted DD's room with the natura paint when I was pg. I did think it had a smell and would not have slept in the room that night - or the next few nights AT LEAST and would not let my baby or toddler either. But, it was winter so I wouldn't have been able to leave the windows open all night - maybe that is why the smell lingered. Also, I believe I read that even 0 voc paints do contain some toxic stuff. I'm on the extra cautious side though - I know many people that wouldn't give it a second thought.
ETA: LOL you can see all my issues with the natura paint in the posts below! would never use it again. Have since used the home depot stuff i think it is called fresh aire or something like that. MUCH better.

Yup. That was me. Just google natura paint and smell and you will see many people have had issues with it.

Re: Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
I painted the interior of a closet myself in one of our nurseries while pregnant with that paint and there was no smell.

Re: Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
Regardless if there is a smell or not I, if pregnant or had a LO I would not go in until paint was cured(24 hrs or so) If she has no place to stay then that won't work, but if there was I would stay elsewhere. But I'm a freak

Re: Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
thx-- she is having a little bit of other work today, so may sleep out just to get out of the craziness. I usually err on the side of caution as well, but my whole house was painted in natura and i didn't smell a thing-- but I also wasn't living here at the time.

Re: Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
Natura does have VOCs in it, but the gov't allows them to legally say "Zero", when the base can have up to 5 g/L. The colorant can have another 5 g/L, for a total of 10 g/L. Still very low, but 10 is not zero, so there will be some smell, and some off-gassing for a while.
Regular paint has over 250 g/L (6-250 g/L is "Low VOC" paint)
I would think it would be much less than what's in that "new car smell", which is mostly VOCs.

Re: Natura Paint-- Toddlers and Pregnancy
There was "some" smell with ours. We opened all the windows as much as possible. We did not move out of the house though.
