Does the street name really matter?
Just wondering everyones take on this. Does the name of the street REALLY matter when you find a house you love?
For example, Skunk Lane.
lol - I just can't imagine saying that on a daily basis. What do you think?

There is a street names Skunks Misery where I grew up. I was thankful not to live on it eventhough the homes are super expensive.

A good friend lives on Skunks Misery Lane in Locust Valley! Gorgeous home
The name of the street doesn't matter. I live on a funny-named street, that often gets people asking to say it again or spell or ask me why it has that name!

It is actually named after the cabbage. When the developers were creating the mansions on that street they had to dig up these foul smelling cabbages, hence the name. Also Locust Valley is named after the tree, not the bug. But yeah, if you can afford a house on that street (millions+) then go for it!

Re: Does the street name really matter?
Personally I have a thing for cutsie street names. But if I found a home on a street that had an odd, funny, or ridiculous name... I'd still buy it. The street name would never be a deal breaker. Even if it was Seamen Street (which I have seen before - I know it's spelled differently but still makes you chuckle).

Re: Does the street name really matter?
our neighborhood has street names that are native american indian words followed by Trail. Some of them are words that are familiar like Montauk or Manhasset, others like ours are obscure & hard to spell and pronounce. Between my married last name & our street name I'm always spelling for people. Its ok, knowing the history behind the street names in our area makes it worth it.

Re: Does the street name really matter?
That would never deter me from buying 'the' house. I grew up in Levittown with sections of names like the solar system, birds, flowers, trades...
My current street name is boring. I love the rabbit-themed streets off Old Town Road (I think it's Port Jeff?) like Bunny Lane and Cottontail Lane. Adorable.
Also, I used to know someone who lived on Lois Lane.

Not if you love the house!
My street name is long, sometimes unspellable (lol) followed by something other than street, lane, or ave, and it's east, west, south or north.
I can't tell you what I have to do when I order a pizza or chinese.

I have a friend who grew up on the corner of Seaman and Cummings . The car service people always thought she was a prank caller

Re: Does the street name really matter?
LMAO!!! When I moved to LI from Brooklyn I got lost around the corner from my house! I couldn't understand why they couldnt use numbers and letters!
But we moved to Laux Place. Pronounced La-ow. Everytime I ordered something on the phone to be delivered I had to spell it out. but it wouldn't deter me.
now i live on Potter Ave and my DH loves saying "Potter Ave, like Harry Potter".

Street name only matters when you are trying to come up with your p o r n name.
Other than that, it would never prevent from buying the right house.

I always laugh when I see Hyman Avenue. If I lived there I would not be able to give my address with a straight face.

Re: Does the street name really matter?
I grew up on a street that was very difficult to spell AND pronounce. It was PITA when I had to spell it out. But, in the end I don't think it was a huge deal. I'm happy to now be on a "normal" street name!

my SIL used to live on Hancock avenue. And DH would always say HAND_COCK.
Could you imagine if your p0rn name was Anita Hancock?

I'm not a fan of my street name.. hard to say & spell. We bought it anyway though, couldn't pass up a great house just for the street name!

Re: Does the street name really matter?
There is a street in my town called "Weesuck Avenue"...It's backed by Weesuck Creek....It's all Native American, but DH informed me that he will never live on that street!
To me - it doesn't matter too much, though I do tend to be drawn to Pretty/Cute names...I grew up on Central Ave, so I'm always fascinated by more interesting street names.
