Permits - Town of Oyster Bay
We finally chose a contractor and we are signing the contract on Thursday. Then we meet with an architect and plans are submitted to the town. Does anyone have any experiences with getting permits from TOB? I don't need a variance, we are doing a double dormer. I'm expecting 2 months at most..........
Thanks!

I was told 7-9 months for a variance. I think you would be lucky with 2 months even without a variance. They are so backed up.

Re: Permits - Town of Oyster Bay
Oyster Bay has alot of new rules. They have changed alot of things in the last two year or so. One thing is the roof pitch. I know you said a double dormer but are you raising the ridge? This may send you into a variance even though you dont need one for setbacks. Regular permits are taking about 8 weeks or a little more. Variances are taking forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ETA: I filed something in July that needed a variance and the permit just got approved 10 days ago... So 8 months...

Oh wow, not looing forward to this process. I do know some people in the town, one of them is a councilman, not sure if that can help out in this situation.

TOB is terrible. I did not need a variance and the total time frame from beginning to ending with a CofO took from March 26, 2008 to November 2009. We did build a house from ground up. That was with no variances and having some very good connections in the town. You need to get checks along the way and that set us back many times. We would have contractors waiting to begin, but then having to move on to other jobs because of waiting for certain things to be checked. Dealing with the TOB was probably the worst experience of my life.
