BTDT moms: ? re: making fresh baby food

so, there are so many appliances on the market now for making and storing fresh baby food...BUT is it worth it?

I ask this because I have a jack lallane juicer that has NEVER been used...and the reason is...by the time u buy the fresh produce for it...it would be cheaper to just have a ready made cup of oj, apple juice etc. So I'm wondering if the same holds true for these baby food makers.

Most people will tell you use your chopper/blender/food processor, some ice cube trays some zip locks and your done. it was the way I did it, and it was fine.

BTW, if you just need a basic chopper, the magic bullet is awesome for baby food, because its nice and small, and so easy to wash, and easy to do many batches at a time.

I personally prefer organic, and jarred organic was expensive. Frozen organic fits the bill, and so easy to work with. It really wasn't that big of a hassle to make baby food. I rarely do it anymore, DS is almost entirely on table foods at 12m.

I think it really depends on your own opinion. For me a store bought juice cannot compare to a freshly juiced. Taste, health benefits, etc. That's just me though. I find my baby food maker to be totally worth it. I have the Beaba. I love knowing exactly what I put in it, and the fact that it is fresh. Don't get me wrong..sometimes its a PITA, but it is important to me so I deal. So I guess it really is personal preferene. I have looked at a lot of the organic baby foods, and they seem to be pretty good as well, so if you don't see yourself making baby food, I think there are great options out there!

When I was pureeing, I used a steamer basket, a good blender and some ice cube trays. It worked awesome.

ready made food is easier, yes. but cheaper, no. I buy organic and even then its cheaper than paying for jarred food. You can freeze what you make so there is no waste.

i also have the beaba and love it, but you could easily just use your own steamer and food processor for the same effect.

I don't really do it for the savings, I just like knowing exactly what is in their food.
I have the Babycook and it is really easy. Bur, having twins, it does not make big enough batches. So I end up using that for one food and making another one, at the same time with a steamer and food processor.

i have used my blender and food processor and find the blender to my favorite of the 2. i dont think you need a separate "baby" processor.

Same thing I used. My steamer basket is part of my rice cooker.

We used our blender is all... Bought a bunch of small sized reusable storage cups. Love making and knowing what is in it.
