Long Drive way

Would you buy a house with a long driveway and the house hidden on the top of it ?

I'm talking long and S shaped with woods between...

where no one can see the house...

the entrance looks like this:

Re: Long Drive way

Why not? It's nice for privacy. The only PITA would be the garbage. If you can get over that I don't see any other issues

ETA that I would take into account the maintenance and snow removal for that driveway as well.. ;)

Re: Long Drive way

Yes, I would love it. We almost bought a house like that except it was a bit steeper almost like you were driving up a hill and with the rain, ice and snow we decided against it.

Re: Long Drive way

I would! But DH would be bringing the garbage out, and I'm sure he'd insist on a snow removal company.

Biggest issue is clearing snow. You would have to hire or buy a plow.

Re: Long Drive way

We have a long driveway, and while I like it because I feel like we sorta have our own parking lot for guests, and we feel a little removed-- it is a PITA for garbage, and we have our landscaper come plow when it snows. Let's just say he had a very good winter!

Ours curves more, so you still see the house from the street, but our house is on a hill that dips down in the back of the house-- for example our house looks smaller from the front than the back/side.

Re: Long Drive way

As long as it's not steep, I would love it. Right now, we have a pretty big driveway, and our house is set all the way back on our property. I have a plow on my truck, so I really wouldn't care how long the driveway was, and if we had a lot of heavy garbage, we could just use the truck to bring it to the street.

Re: Long Drive way

In theory I like it. In reality, winters in the Northeast, garbage day, mail, bus stop for the kid(s)...would probably deter me.

It's nice to have the privacy but the snow removal, garbage days, mail and deliveries would make think twice about it.

We were considering buying a house with a very long driveway. I loved the idea. DH hated it. He was concerned about the expense of snow removal, getting the garbage to the curb and the cost of landscaping all the property.
We opted against it.

I would, but i would also think of snow, garbage, mail, pizza delivery guys getting lost. Dh would veto it, just because of snow. We have a 4 car drive way now, and all he did was complain when shoveling this year. Chat Icon
