Potty Words - 3 - 4 year old boys
Does your pre-schooler use a lot of potty words? Poopy, fart, etc.
I mean just for the fun of it... not only when necessary.
How do you handle it? Ignore it, reprimand him, laugh, etc.
Thanks!

Yup, all the time. He even sings songs about them I try not to make a big deal out of it and just divert his attention to something else. I truly think this is a phase...and I pray

Cailen does this - he thinks it's hysterical...
He knows in daycare he can't use bathroom words, and we tell him when we are outside of the house, no bathroom words. He follows that rule pretty well...

Re: Potty Words - 3 - 4 year old boys
DS's potty word is "eyeballs". I usually let them go except at the table. After a while if he keeps at it, I tel him to "use his real words" and then distract him with something.
He isn't allowed to say "fart" only "toot".
Sometimes if he doens't stop, I tell him if he wants to use potty words he can use them in the potty. He usually just makes up words.
4 letter words are not allowed.
I said "nincompoop" 2x on day and he took away my chocolate milk at lunch.

Yep......
We ignore it in some situations and reprimand him in others.
Very common at this age apparently. (For boys at least b/c my older girls never did this...)

Forget preschoolers, my almost 6 years old uses it all the time.
Apparently, anything poop and butt related is the hot topic in his class! He likes to walk around chanting "stinky butt, stinky butt!"

Re: Potty Words - 3 - 4 year old boys
Thanks everyone!
We usually ignore it, or tell him we don't use potty words, but my parents, Papa especially, think it's hysterical when he uses them and they encourage it by laughing and giving him attention when he uses them. I don't think he uses them at school regularly, because the pre-k teacher wouldn't stand for it, but yesterday the director was in the pre-k class for a bit and she spent some time with DS who must have been trying to get a reaction from her by using potty words (mostly poopy...).

Re: Potty Words - 3 - 4 year old boys
The other night during story time, my DD leaned over and said to me "Mommy, I have to tell you a secret."
Okay...
She whispered in my ear "Cockie and doody."
She thinks it's hilarious. I admit, I laughed because she took me by surprise. I figure it's just a phase..
