If your basement has an OSE ---
do you prefer the OSE to be in your front yard, backyard, or side yard?
We are in the midst of planning our finished basement and we want to include an outside entrance and I think it should be on the side of the house near our driveway, but DH thinks it should go in the backyard.
I'm thinking ahead to 15-20 years from now when one of our sons may want to use the basement as an apartment and I'm trying to think of the best place to have a 'tenant' enter the house.
Any thoughts?

we have one on our side and my parents have one in the back....I think it depends on the layout of your house...we live on a corner, so the side is where the playset and everything is, in the back is where the pool is.

I would consider if you are going to be moving large furniture or other items in and out. Ours has one on the side-DH does some casual woodworking-it helps that the door to the basement is right near the driveway for him to unload his 'toys'.

my parents have a walkway off the driveway and it's on the side of the house. I like it better than in the back.

Side yard... Esp for tenants. Another reason is when the boys are playing in the backyard you wont have to worry about the steps.

Ours is in our backyard. I think if you are considering having a tenant to put it on the side of your house but if it is for personal use I definitely would say the back.

Side. DH and I live in an upstairs apartment and we have a side entrance. If we weren't living in my IL's house and there was a back entrance, I'd feel weird going into a backyard entrance.

I say side.
My sister used to live in an upstairs apt in someone's house and both times she had to walk into their backyard, while they were playing with their kids...or in the hot tub.

I've carried a lot of very heavy things into the basement from my truck, and the closer that door is to my truck, the easier it is for me....
