You know you live in an old house when....
Our house is an almost 90-year old tudor - all of the windows are original.
With all of the wind last night and all of the exterior doors and windows closed, the door to my son's room managed to blow wide open.
It doesn't help that none of the doors close properly (they close, but they don't latch, KWIM? )
Ahhhhhhh - the joys of living in an old house. It's horrible on oil, there's not a damn straight line in the house, the floors creak with the slightest pressure, I can go on and on and on - but hey, it's charming!

Yeah, one of the worst things about living in an old (yet full of charm ) house is trying to keep it warm!

LOL Oh boy I guess its time to invest in new windows. My house was bulit in 1960 which I really don't consider that old but I still need custom made windows to replace ours b/c they're no longer considered standard size...Atleast you have the charm I just have a cold house

Oh I hear you! We have 120 year old windows. On windy nights DH and I don't sleep because the windows rattle SO LOUDLY throughout the house.
The worst part is that we live in an historic preservation district and aren't allowed to install new windows!
Don't even get me started on the creaky stairs and crazy uneven floors. Good thing I love "character"!

Vanessa - RIGHT there with you! We are in the process of doing some small repairs and are once again confronted with how crooked everything is! We finally had our garage door fixed and now it blows open in this wind - DH had to put a padlock on it just to hold it closed through this crazy wind!
Do you have wood sills underneath your windows? We have these little latch type locks on our porch windows that go into the sill - does that make any sense? Helps to keep the windows closed in these crazy winds...

80 year old house here. We replaced windows, doors, plumbing, electric..and have no money left to do cosmetic things.
Ah, we also blew in insulation.
New fence...new stoop at the end of the month.
You would think that our house is so upgraded but it's not.
but it's charming....

haha, every single one of my blinds in our 101 year old house, flap in the wind every time it is windy out! When it is really cold, you can actually feel the air if you are anywhere near my front door.
