Two houses in from a busy street?
Do you think that's far enough to be sheltered from noise and traffic? The house is on a side street but the cross street is Wantagh Ave. I think the backyard is fenced in and private but I'm still not so crazy about it being so close...
How would you feel?

depends how far north. South of jerusalm, I would say yes. North, I would say no... the traffic opens up with SS and much faster traffic

Its south of Jerusalem but JUST south. The house is in Wantagh Woods and its nice, but I'm just concerned about it being so close.

Re: Two houses in from a busy street?
For me, it would be too close. I considered a few houses in a similar proximity, but we decided against it. Mainly because I would worry about my future kids wandering while playing or about my dog getting out onto a main road.
Everyone is different though, have to do what you are comfortable with Good luck!

Re: Two houses in from a busy street?
I'm not all that familiar with that area, but I live only a few houses from a busy street and have never had any problems w/noise, or my SD playing outside, etc. In fact, I actually kind of like being so close to a busier street because it's more passable when it snows, from the traffic & plows.

Re: Two houses in from a busy street?
Jess, I think I know exactly the house you are talking about. If i am, we saw it in person and its too close IMO. Granted we saw it in January with zero trees on the leaves but you can see the wantagh ave traffic from the backyard. just an FYI. FM if you want additional details...
its a case by case basis so dont rule it out based on just looking at google maps but i think you will think this one is too close.
we also saw one in Wantagh woods near 135 and it was also too close but it looks further away on the computer. however, our soon to be house is VERY close to the southern state but you cant see it or hear it with how its located so you never know. do some drive-bys before you drag your agent out to see it!

I live 4 houses off of Wantagh Avenue in Levittown, and I don't find the noise to be an issue. I do hear the ambulances beside I am near the ambulance corp, but as for normal traffic, it doesn't really bother me.

Re: Two houses in from a busy street?
To me it is not. I am very picky @ the neighborhood I want and in order to stay in that area I would be open to that. Now if there is a surplus of homes here for the same price and I had the choice I might feel otherwise.

Re: Two houses in from a busy street?
My brothers house backs up to commercial stores on Wanatagh Avenue. He is a few houses from Merrick Road. When he first moved in I thought he was insane but after spending time there for bbq's I noticed it wasn't that bad.

Re: Two houses in from a busy street?
I would just go by at different times of day (mid-day, evening) and on the weekend as well as weekdays to judge the traffic and noise level for yourself. I think everyone has different standards in terms of what is liveable and what would be an issue. But since the location of the house can't be changed, I would really try to figure out if you would be comfortable there before seriously considering it.

Re: Two houses in from a busy street?
It would be too close for me. We wanted a very quiet neighborhood & safe to walk with the kids.
But re: noise, the house I grew up in was about 5 houses down from a busy road, and noise was never a problem.
