Help! Do I replace the sewer pipe or just line it? For what price? Anyone know anything about this? UPDATE
I just moved into a house 3 days ago we just bought. The drain in the basement flooded, so I called a sewer company. They tried snaking it, but it ended up that they needed to run a camera through the sewer and the pipe seems to be cracked in several places!!!! The company we are using told me that the pipe can be saved if they line it, but they can also replace the pipe.
What should I do? Should I line the sewer pipe or replace it. Either way, it will cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Thousands and thousands!!!!
We are so $crewed. Anyone have any experience, recommendations, words of wisdom regarding this situation??? My husband and I know NOTHING about this at all.
Update: So a different company came with a better camera and showed that there were roots coming through the sewer. All it needed was a good cleaning! The pipes will need to be replaced at some point for various reasons but they are fine for now and should be for awhile. Thanks to all who responded!

Do the cracks have anything to do with the flooding? They may have just found the cracks, when many homes' pipes may be cracked, kwim?

the SAME EXACT thing happened to us a month after we closed on our house. we had to replace the whole line, from our front lawn into the street. we were absolutely sick over it, and we got a bunch of estimates from different companies. we ended up using main man plumbing, bc they were recommended and reasonably priced. i think it was $8000.

that totally stinks.... I say get a few opinions, and a price quote on both lining and replacing. If replacing isnt much more, just get it over with.

This happened right when we moved in and had guests. THere was a tree root in the line and it cracked the pipe. We called roto-rooter and got rid of the big tree. We never replaced the pipe. I wouldn't waste your money unless it becomes an ongoing problem...

Same as what I was saying about my mom's house. Theirs has been cracked for years and they only get a back up when the tree roots grow every few years. I would get the pipe roto rootered out...but not be quick to replace it anytime soon. You know how many people probably have cracks in their sewer pipe? Most people just don't have a camera viewing theirs so they probably will never know.

I hope this is the case. Does anyone have a company that they know to be trustworthy and deals with this so that I can make sure that I dont have a real problem? Main Man doesnt come to where i live. In the meantime i am sick about all of this.
