Is this worth it? *UPDATED*

I'm on the hunt for an apartment. I've never lived on my own. I've never rented. I moved out of my childhood home, into my house that I bought with STBX when we got married. Now,we are getting divorced.

I found an apt on craigstlist and I went to go see it today. I'd guess it about 900 square feet. Maybe less. 2 bedroom, EIK, W/D, Living room. Not huge, but it would do the job. Enough for 2 couches and even a dining room table or an office area, if you so choose. Its located in the back of a house, and I guess you can technically call it a basement, but there are HUGE windows in all the rooms. She will allow me to take my dog at not additional cost, and there is yard space which she said I could plant, have a table/chair/bbq. She said I could paint as long as the colors aren't insane. Decent closet space. They are asking $1350, all inclusive.

Is this a good price?

***UPDATED***
So, the landlord called me yesterday to see if I wanted to take the apt. I felt like I wasn't going to take it. So, I told her I looked at another apt that was cheaper (total lie) and was on the fence about taking the apt. so if she gave it to someone else I'd understand. Why I didn't just say no, I don't know....maybe I was trying to be nice. So, she asks me what the other apt was and I told her $1200 and she MATCHED it! Chat Icon She dropped the prive $150 per month. I went back and looekd at it in the day time to see if there is any light b/c technically isn't a basement apt. There IS a lot of light b/c the window are huge. But, when you look out the windows, its the well from above the house. No windows or anything. Thoughts on that?

With the price drop, what do I do now? I need to let her know today or tomorrow.

I'd say so.

I've paid 1400 for a 2 bedroom with all util included.

The yard space sounds cool, too...and so is taking in your dog! that's hard to find!

did you like it?

and is it month-to-month or lease?

Re: Is this worth it?

i think it sounds pretty good. does it include utilities?

we paid $1500 for a 2 bedroom, living room/dining room combo with a TINY kitchen in a closet. we were the top floor of a house, no use of backyard and no pets. but that included all except phone/cable/internet.

I did like it, but its the ONLY place I've EVER looked at...so I have nothing to compare it to. I emailed others but never heard back.

She said she'd start with a 4 month lease to make sure she likes me, I like her and then if we are good to go, we will sign for the rest of the year.

And that they are allowing the dog.

Sounds great to me. I used to pay 1200 for a 1br. If you like it and it feels like a good place for you, I wouldn't hesitate just because you haven't seen many places.

Re: Is this worth it?

I don't know

I pay $900 for a 1 bedroom - everything included (you would never pay a or you should never pay a fee when it's all included- cause it's not a legal apartment- please let's not start a debate)

huge living room

huge bedroom

huge bathroom

all new bath and kitchen

use of backyard

this is the only place i looked at- I knew it was right for me

the only reason I would jump on it is b/c of the dog

Re: Is this worth it? *UPDATED*

I think 1200 incl utilities is great for a 2 bed. I paid way more and had to pay for elect.

If its in an area you like Id go for it. Its just an apt. You dont have to stay there forever

With the price drop - I think I would take it!

ETA - especially if you can get out after 4 months if you really hate it.

Yes, I can take Yogi. She has a small fenced in yard. Enough for him to run a little and get some air.

The apartment is technically in the basement. So, the windows are big, but they open up to the window wells from above the house. So, basically when you look out the window, you have to look up to see trees. It's concrete when you look directly outside. Could I decorate the windows nicely and maybe just allow the light in? Like a sheer or something?
