Let's talk vacuums

So my Bissell basically crapped out today. This was time after time fixing it. I've had enough, it has no more suction.

I'm thinking of going all out and buying a Dyson. Any reasons why I should or should not. If I shouldn't, do you have any reason why besides price?

I'm open to other vacuum suggestions.

TIA!

Re: Let's talk vacuums

I had a Dyson and hated it. It would spit things out of the back of it, didn't have good suction, etc. I know everyone swears by Dyson, but I didn't have a god experience.

I went to Macy's one night and picked up a Bissel that was on sale for $80 and I have no complaints.

Over the years we have had many vacuums and nothing has been better than my current vacuum which is a Miele. Even DH loves it. It is light weight, has amazing suction and cleans really really well. I highly recommend Miele.

Our Miele is 14 years old and still going strong.
The brushes stopped spinning last week and we thought we were going to have to buy a new one... nope, just replaced the "broom" part of the canister vac, the brushes were worn down and we didn't even realize) and good as new. The tech at the vacuum store said we should get another 6-10 years out of it.

Seems expensive at $500 but if we get 20 years out of it it will be a bargain. In 20 years I'd go through several cheaper vacuums.

Re: Let's talk vacuums

The longer I have my Dyson, the more I realize how much I REALLY do not like it. Chat Icon 1st off, it weighs a TON(I have the purple animal) The hose that pulls out is not bendable for the last few feet and makes it hard to use in high place or around bends. It really does not suck as good as I think it should. I am thinking of getting a totally new vacuum. So not worth the $$$$

I rarely hear good review for dyson. I think your best bet would be checking out other vacuums and their reviews on the internet. Dyson has the name but I think theres better vacuums out there for a wayyy better price.

I went with other several independent reviews and bought 2 Hoover vacuums (one upstairs and one downstairs) for less than 1 Dyson. The Hoovers were rated better than the best Dyson on the charts.

Dysons are usually "good" on most charts. Much better than people's previous 10 year old, terrible vacuum, so it seems awesome, but not as good as the "very good" vacuums which cost much less.

I bought an Oreck 3 years ago and love it. It picks up everything with nothing blowing back. I have a 10 year service contract too. I will be bringing it in this month and they replace hoses and bags and check everything else.

I have an Electrolux canister vac with HEPA filter.
Love it.
Power brush, floor brush, upholstery, fine nozzle and round brush attachments.

Had a Kenmore bagless upright and hated it. I swear it used to spit the dust out thru the top of the vacuum.

Re: Let's talk vacuums

The dyson works well but the hose is long and doesn't bend. SO difficult to vacuum stairs or high places. It's heavy so it's not like you can just carry it up and down the stairs while you vacuum. I wouldn't buy another.

ETA: it also doesn't fit under the bed nicely so when I do the sheets I have to lift the mattress and box spring to vacuum under there. I'd go with a canister next time.
