I think he, CNN, & many other journalists there feel like they need to stay. Coming home would be allowing themselves to be bullied.

How much is too much, though? Chat Icon

I see what you're saying, but their lives aren't worth the story.

She's done with her vacation? Earlier this week there were shots of her at the pool lounging around and playing tennis. Chat Icon

Re: I think it's time for Anderson Cooper to come home, no?

I said this a few days ago when watching AC360 and they were told they needed to turn off their lights and barricade their door.

I'm all for the journalist getting in the thick of it, but now their lives are being threatened (foreign journalists specifically).... I'd high-tail it out of there!

Um, Egypt isn't exactly Karachi in 2002.

To make the connection between Egyptains who are unhappy with their president and therefore rioting in the streets (not unlike what has historically happened all over Europe), with al-qa'ida is, well, insulting.

If you were just saying that it is a situation where a journalist places himself in a dangerous situation to get the story, then I understand.

I think she meant the second of your explanations. I don't know where you are getting the first idea from.

It's a huge leap to construe I'm likening all Egyptians to Al Qaeda. I was likening threatening a journalist with beheading with the murder of a journalist that WAS beheaded. A crowd of protesters who instead of pleading their case to the very journalists who could actually air footage & their plight around the world, have chosen to threaten a journalist with beheading, attacked others. Hundreds have been injured during these rioting.

I'm saying it is a dangerous situation - and a mob mentality doesn't exactly incite the well-being of an American journalist when they're shouting that they hate Americans. They are trying to oust a president that is/was one of our strongest ally in the Middle East. Right or wrong, we have interfered in the Middle East for decades - and their intense anger over their President is also directed toward us.

I am so glad. I am really concerned for the safety of all western journalists in Egypt.
