Curtain/Drapes help
We have a bay window at the front of our house and underneath it is the radiator that extends the full length of the window. Having the curtains in front of the radiator blocks the heat, but I don't know what else to do so people don't see through when they're walking by. 
I think short curtains won't look right. The windows itself are odd shaped so I can't just buy bamboo blinds or anything like that. What else can I do so that the heat isn't blocked?

We actually had the same problem. We lifted the curtains/curtain rods a bit so the heat could still circulate.
Or maybe you could tie the curtains back on each side?

You can tie them back or if you are crafty, you can sew hooks and string on the backside of the curtian.. it'll give it a roman look when you don't want them to block the radiators and in the summer, you can just let them go.
I can show you how to put them in.. it's really easy.. otherwise, you can get tie backs for them.. and you don't need to go fancy.. you can get 2 cup hooks and they screw right in and then use a rubberband and tie them around and pull some out so that it covers the rubberband and looks scrunched.

what kind of window is it? Bay? Bow? Flat?
Can you mount blinds and then have panels on each side? Most blinds have a decorative headrail so they really wouldn't be an eyesore.

Why can't you use blinds or shades?
I would extend the rod, push the purple (can't tell color) panels off to the sides more and use either a roman shade or woven blinds for privacy.

I have bow window like that in my living room with the radiator right below it. I have a shade up and then am getting curtain panels that swag at the top and fall along the sides of the window. The shade gives us privacy so we don't need to close the curtains.

It's an actual radiator not baseboard heat so not sure how that would help. How high up did you put your curtain rod?

It's bay window. I've thought about this but the blinds would have to be custom and of course the ones I want aren't cheap.

I ordered then from JC Penny I think they are 15X64 about $30.00 each. Well worth it I love to control witch widow I want light in from and I love no cords just push up or pull down.

Sorry about that. I realized that you said radiator not baseboard after I replied.
We probably only lifted our curtain rods a few inches or so and we tied the actual curtains back on each side. We have the panels straight down and they do go over the baseboard, but only a little bit and they're pretty thin so the heat can flow through without any problems. Can you maybe do a nice valance with lightweight panels that the heat will still flow through? And if you need to, you can put some basic blinds over the windows themselves to block out the light or for privacy.

Can you do custom with these? I'll need that because I have 3 windows. Two on the end are the same size and one big one for the middle.

it's a bittch to mount them to the three windows. You have to miter the edges and such...
You could do one big custom blind - inside mount - and do the panels on both sides.
I've ordered custom from yourblinds.com.
I made up window dimensions - let's say your window measures 80" w x 50" h - the price is around $115.

I had to custom size all my windows. I have the same windows as you in my dining room one large window in the middle and one smaller one on each side. JC Penney has them all you have to do is measure.

You could definetely use a double rod that hangs a little wider than the window and put thhe sheer curtain up that will give you privacy but thin enough it won't block the heat too much. Then hang the heavier drapes on the outer rod and keep them pushed back.
