do people take their shoes off to walk through homes? just curious?

usually not, but if you are a seller, you can request this of your potential buyers...I would just have your agent be sure to reiterate the info to the buyers beforehand (so they can be prepared).

When I was looking, one lady requested this but I had no knowledge beforehand, and of course it was a "I rushed out of my house on 2 hours of sleep with mis-matched old socks" day. I understand the seller's desire for no shoes, but I wish I had been prepared.

You can make the request.

I don't request it. I have had many showings with various realtors, and I have never had a problem with anyone making the house dirty or anything with their shoes and I am a clean freak.

When we looked at horse properties, we always took our shoes off when looking at the home -- but only because we spent much time walking all over the property, getting dirty.

Most realtors will ask people to remove their shoes if it is particularly muddy or gross out anyway, I think. I've had showings after the show and never even noticed any salt tracked into my house. I do have mats outside the front door AND just inside, though.
