If so how did you do it, and would you do it again. We have an old school wrought iron banniseter in the house right now it's black, I'd love to paint it white but not sure if I should spray paint it or not etc....

My mil did. She used a spray primer, and spray painted it antique white. It looked so much better.

Re: Anyone paint an old wrought iron bannister

when my parents lived in NY they had wrought iron in the house and my mom painted it white. it matched her decor better. i think my mom used a brush but i bet a spray paint would come out even better (as long as you cover everything that could get hit with overspray)

Thanks everyone...I may have to have DH try this, although I know I would want to do it, being pg and spray painting doesn't really mix I think...

I also have black iron railing and we just got our floors done. The floor guy said that a lot of new construction homes are doing the black wrought iron railing. My Mom painted her railing and to be honest she should have kept it black in color and not the beige she used.

I did this in my old apt. I bought rustoleum spray paint, covered everything in the surrounding area and let it rip. It came out great. Went from black to white.

I am so jealous i hope to have enough money to install iron banisters when we do our stoop.

You should sand anything with rust with a high grit sp. then spray on primer - then two coats of white. Make sure its made for metal and won't rust, etc. Usually only have to do it once every 10-15 years.

We did in our first house. Had a black wrough iron bannister and we decided to make it white. Made a HUGE difference.

We sanded it down first then painted it with outdoor pain. We didn't use spray someone told use better to hand paint but tbh I am sure spray pain would be fine.

Came out great!
