House Warming Gift - help!
DH and I want to get his sister a nice gift for her new house she and her husband just bought. We are having such a hard time coming up with something. She has TONS of household items since she had a bridal shower a few years ago and got way more then she could have imagined. We would love to help buy furniture but we can't afford the stuff she wants from Ethan Allen or even make a dent in the price tag. Any other ideas? I know she's going to need things to decorate with but I'd rather not pick it out for her since she hasn't choosen wall colors yet.
Thanks!!

Re: House Warming Gift - help!
How about a gc to a store where she can get decor, like Home Goods, Pier 1, etc.

Re: House Warming Gift - help!
We bought our house less than 6 months after we got married, and we had already been living together for 2 yrs prior to that. We had just about everything we needed. The best gifts we got were Home Depot gift cards. They have everything you need. We bought new locks for the doors, snow shovels, rakes, garbage cans, storage racks for the basement and garage.
My MIL still has not bought us a house warming gift b/c she insist on buying us something "special". We told her we needed a dehumidifier and she said "that's not what I had in mind".
I digress, my point is, ask your SIL what she needs or just go with HD gift card.

I usually get people - kitchen dish towels and hand loition and soap from William Sonoma - its useful and can be neutral - plus a little fancy b/c its from WS. Or gift cards are always great to BBB or HD as others said.

This is what I was thinking, home goods. I know she is going to need pictures to hang up and other decor. I really wanted it to be special but I think this is my best bet. Plus there is one right near her house. Home Depot isn't a bad idea either but her parents, my IL's live right there and I have a feeling they will be footing the bill for all that sort of stuff.

Re: House Warming Gift - help!
when i had a housewarming a lot of people brought us stuff from homegoods like a vase, decorative bowls, etc. but i do think that a HD giftcard would be very useful!

Re: House Warming Gift - help!
I know this is the wrong time of year....but In-Laws got us a patio set and my parents got us a BBQ. Both things we needed and were happy to not buy, but still fun and special at the same time.
Maybe cut out a picture of one and actually give it to them in the spring .
ALso: The Home Depot and Lowes gift cards NEVER went to waste! I get what you are saying that they arent as fun though.

Honestly, when DH and I bought our house, the best gifts we got were GC's to BBB, Home Depot and Lowes.

I agree with others.. best gc for homeowners is to HD or Lowe's! There's ALWAYS something you need from there.
I also like the Homegoods, Pier 1 gc's, or the Williams Sonoma or Pottery Barn suggestion is nice too.

I agree with the above too, but I was also thinking you could get a gift card to overstock.com. They have furniture, decor, bed, bath, etc.

Re: House Warming Gift - help!
the games mentioned above is a really good idea
i also love the ETS sign or doormat.. a doormat they can put anywhere- outside, inside, basement, garage etc.
are they into wine?
pottery barn sells a nice wine decanter. that ..with the matching funnel, and a bottle of red. or that cool wine thing- the Soiree- its a decanting funnel..its fun to use and works great
or
juliska has beautiful things- maybe a vase or serving dish or pitcher
