Bath Fitter-- for just a tub

I just had bath fitter here for an estimate for my tub-- our tile is in good shape, and we replaced the vanity and the toilet already. We'd just be doing a tub-- no walls. Tile in the bathroom was put in by previous oweners.

The main reason for us doing the tub, is cosmetic. This is not instead of a gut-- it's either this, or nothing until we gut in maybe 10 years or so, if not more. Our tub is an off-white/peachy color. Can't really see if because of how our tub is situated-- but I would prefer somethign "new" to be bathing Sasha in, etc., cause it's really so old it kinda grosses me out, although it's in good shape.

Thoughts, pros/cons of bath fitter for our sitch?

we were in sort of the same position... we bought a place which the previous owner completely re-did the bathroom. floor to ceiling tiles, slate tile floor new fixtures etc.. except he left the damn original 50yr old tub!!! WT F?!??! the damn thing was peeling and just looked gross... DW refused to shower in there until we did something about it...

we had bath fitters come in an just do the tub... nothing else.. it was $1,400 and it comes with a lifetime warranty for as long as we own the property...

my parents also had it done over 10 yrs ago, same thing, just a tub... they seem to hold up.... and its less intrusive then a full gut job...


Pros: fast and easy... they had the sales guy take measurements (about 20 min)... and 5 days later they installed... it took about 2hrs to install...

cons: it doesn't "feel" like a tub... i cant explain it but it feels plastic-ish...

trust me, its not what i WANTED to do.. but it was what was affordable at the time...

thanks for your feedback. Our tub doesn't sound like it's anywhere in the same condition as yours was.. I am kinda thinking it's a bit too much to spend just because I don't like the color, ya know?

Also, there seems to be A LOT of bad reviews online and I am worried that once you go bath fitter, you never go back. Although many of these negative reviews seem to be from disgruntled employees or people who had their entire bathrooms done.

I was expecting it to be half that price, and I had a $250 off coupon.

I think I might rather buy furniture.

I would not do bath fitter if you own the house.

Go with a real tub.

They are the worst money spent. Can lead to a list of problems. We actually just had a plumber here the other day for a clogged drain and he told us to NEVER do it. I replied, I already know and never would.

thanks-- we are def not doing it.

Too expensive for what it is and the risks it proposes.

Too much of a wild card and you can never un-do it.

I just wish it was easier to rip out a damn tub and replace it without disturbing everything else in a bathroom.

Peach tub, I think we'll be together a long time....

You could have it reglazed and it will be around $400-$500. It will still chip though just like a regular tub. I think it is good for a temporary fix. We did when we sold our LI house because we were not going to remove the tub since it was on the market but did everything else.
This isn't the best picture, but here is the
before, the tub was the a shade between the sink and the toilet. The toilet was new and you can see the white tub. We had it done in January and by April we had 2 chips from tube of wash falling from the shower caddy. It was a corner when it landed.

i had a bathfitter tub installed in my apartment and lived there with it for 4 year. I don't have a single complaint about it.... had I known that I was gutting the entire bathroom I would have replaced the tub, but when I ordered it we had thought that the walls, etc were in better condition, but at that point I had already ordered it.

I never had any problems with the caulking, no mold, its warmer than a regular tub if you takes baths and lay in. The only thing that was strange is when you stepped on a certain spot it was not flush against a the old tub and used to making a noise and flatten to it with your body wait... didn't bother me tho!

I don't think its worth the $$. I lived in an apt with a mustard yellow tub that I hated. After getting the ok from the landlord, I went to HD and bought the reglazing spray I think it was like $60 and did it myself. It wasn't hard at all. It does peel though after a while but it will give you some time until u can redo you bathroom

I used bathfitters too after the reglazing chipped. I have no complaints either...My tub looks 100% better than it did before.

we had bath fitter in our 1st apartment. about 2 months later there was a leak into my neighbor's downstair's apartment due to the fixture's not being installed right. i battled with them to cover the damages due to neighbor's apartment. they won't pay for it.. i got tired of arguing with them. i do not recommend them.. stay away from them.

Reglazing the tub will be cheaper and last you about the 10years you are sayingh...
