Spinoff to House Phones

Does everyone here have a house phone?? We have one but we hardly ever use it. I'm considering just shutting it down and keeping the cell phones but am paranoid about not having it as a back up. Any opinions?

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

When we were in an apartment, we only had cell phones, but we could pretty much here them from anywhere. Now that we're in a house, we thought it was important to have a landline. We don't always have our cell phones immediately on us when we move between rooms. That said, most people tend to call us on our cell phones.

In our apt now we don't..but when we finally move we will. For xmass we got cordless phones that sinc up to your cell phone and down load all of your contacts and your land line will also ring when your cell rings...looks pretty cool but we haven't tried them yet

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

i have not had a land line and had the same cell phone number since... 2001

just remember...

a "land line" - if you are talking about getting a triple play package from a cable company then what you really are getting is "VOIP" which means you are tech talking over the internet.... if the power goes out... so does your phone because it works through the modem which needs power...so much for 911

not sure about fios.. it does have a battery backup just not sure how long it lasts...

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

I do but I honestly wish they just had a regular phone service like powered through the line. I have FIOS so if the power is out I have battery backup until that goes out. DH doesn't have a cell phone really (work phone only) so we need the landline.

I SO want to cancel the house phone. But i believe our interent runs through the phone line. Is it necessary to have a phone to get internet?? We both pay cell phone bills AND he house phone-would be nice to save that $$ each month...

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

We have one. I called to get rid of it a few months ago but then Time Warner offered to give it to us for free for a few months and then at a lower price so we said we'd keep it for now. Just in case.

Do you have a DSL modem? I mean it runs through a phone line, but you don't have to have both. You could just get internet from Verizon or Time Warner.

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

We canceled ours months ago. No one used it. We use our cells for everything. But, I think if I had a child in the home, I would keep it for emergencies.

i just feel a little more secure having it as backup in case anything happens to our cell phones

our parents still call us on that phone, but mostly everyone else uses the cell phone.
