Purge, Purge, Purge!!!

is my motto for 2011. I went thru every level of our house today and purged so much junk. I have the whole back of our car filled with stuff for the Salvation Army. Nice way to start of the new year.

WTG!! I have been throwing things away left & right. Every time I open a drawer or cabinet I find something else that can go in the garbage.

Re: Purge, Purge, Purge!!!

I wasn't able to get a big block of time to do a whole house purge but yeah, it's my house goal for the immediate future. But last night in less than 10 minutes I filled 2 garbage bags of old clothes to donate.

Most people say we are better than most when it comes to purging and anti-clutter... we can actual park a car in our garage (I think we are the only one on our block)Chat Icon My DH is anal about the garage and is constantly reorganizing it. We only have a 1/3 of a basement with one large 8 by 10 foot closet... most of which are totes of hand-me-downs for my kids, sizes they have yet to fit onto... and our off season clothes. The CAC takes up a lot of attic space so only our X-mas stuff fits up there. That lack of storage actually helps.

I have always purged and regularly keep a "Goodwill" box at the bottom of the coat closet but now with kids... the clothes and the toysChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon it's constant.

I've always been anti-clutter ever since one of my neighbors died years ago. He lived in the house 50 plus years and his kids, about 8 adults total, spent several weekends emptying the contents of his house. I swear it was at least 6 driveway size dumpstersChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon All I could think of was never, never, never do I want my dad's house (he's disabled and I'm his P.O.A.) or my house ever getting like that.

I do this in the garage with the kids old clothes. But I was never good with getting rid of my own junk. It felt so good to do this today. I spent about 4 hours going thru various things. I still have some more to do. I didn't eve touch the garage yet or the shed but it was a start. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Purge, Purge, Purge!!!

I started this today as well with DS's playroom and the old toys in storage.

Next is our holiday stuff, then the storage in the basment, then on to the extra closet up here...

Its part purging and part nesting but I am SUPER EXCITED to see all the stuff go!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add I've always kept a tote at the bottom of their closets for clothes that are too small.

My goal next goal is to purge my kitchen. I'm hoping by the end of the week... one cabinet/drawer at a timeChat Icon but I have the equivalent of 7 huge garbage bags of hand me downs to sort and get into totes firstChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I guess my tree is staying up until JulyChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have been doing that all week. My husband is totally like *** is going on with you, because I have never been like this I did both kids closets, the basement, the kitchen cabinet, the hall closet and next would be my closet if I wasn't going back to work tomorrow.

I need to do this, I just keep putting it off. I know I'll feel better when I do though.

I need to as well.... but I have trouble throwing things out. I always think "I'll need this later" even though I know it's junk.

Its such a relieving feeling when you de-clutter! I did this yesturday tackling out kitchen and a storage clsoet. I have so much more room now and most importantly its all neat! Chat Icon
