Re: Our first apartment together - advice?
Thanks for all of the advice.
FH REALLY wants to take this apt. He hates where he is now and it would get him out quickly. We also both really like the apartment itself. It's a lot nocer than what we thought we could afford. It's huge and we both have a lot of stuff so we need huge.
Being in OZP is not the hugest downside. It's the neighborhood where I grew up, and it's close to all. I could keep going to the same stores, church, doctors.
We did look online. Everything in the same price range was either smaller or in a worse area, or had another huge downside. Apts that were comparable were several hundred more per month.
We found one in HB that was comparably priced, and I think only a little smaller, but of course a nicer neighborhood, but they want 2.5 months up front, so FH shot that down.
He's also annoying me because he's lived on his own for so long and he'd be moving first so he's using a lot of *I* language "I think I'm going to take that apartment"...and I'm like "oh YOU think YOU are" yeah... WTH
I actually fell in love with the apt itself. It's just nghh..
Like WHY are there bars on the window?

Re: Our first apartment together - advice?
I've been looking online, and haven't had any luck. Either way expensive in nicer areas, or crappy areas.
As far as areas go. i know HB exceptionally well. I shop there, go to doctors there, I'm there every day. I get irked pretty easily by the sense of entitlement going around there as compared to other areas (not to mention jersey shore..LOL).
I was looking online and found some ok looking apts in HB that turned out to actually be in Lindenwood, which is not an option for us for a number of reasons.
I've tried craiglist (which has many options if you want to live in really crappy areas) and other sites, which mostly have buildings, but we are looking for a private house situation.
Those of you who live in /near HB, please let me know if you hear of any rentals.
Thanks!

I used to alwaysss be freaked out by bars on the windows too. When DH & I were looking at houses, if there was a bar on a window, I would say "I'm not living this town!"
Now that we are moved in though, we have bars on our basement windows. I don't feel unsafe; I'll go outside alone and all that. However, it's just an extra safety precaution, since crimes can happen anywhere.
HTH a little!
