5-6 month old & schedules (esp SAHM)

What's your schedule with your 5-6 month old?

We used to have a good schedule - Wake up, eat, play, nap, repeat. Now she's taking 30 minute cat naps. She's not hungry every time she wakes up, since it's only 2-2.5 hours since she last ate. So we end up playing, then eating, then playing more, then napping. Then eating right before nap. Napping at various times, because she wakes up at different times each day. Chat Icon

DS will be 5 months on Friday & this is our schedule lately.

6:30-7:30 up for am bottle
8:30 nap for about 45 minutes then wakes to play
10-10:30 mid morning bottle along with fruit.
11:30 naps while we run errands (this nap lasts anywhere from 3-3.5 hours)
2:30-3:30 (depending on when he wakes from nap) another bottle & we usually play until he takes 30 minute nap around 5ish.
6 evening bottle & dinner with us
9:30 night bottle & goes to bed for the evening

I would let your DC let you know when she is hungry. You may need to wait tilnshe cries or gets fussy. DS now goes 4-5 hrs before eating again

Wake up
Bottle 7am
Solids 730 am
Play in exersaucer until had enough
Nap around 8-830
Wake up about (may sleep an hour - 2 hours)
play han out etc
Bottle 12
Solids 1230
Play
Nap times vary depending on his mood or if we went out
Bottle 4
Solids 430
Play
Nap 5or 6 ish
Bottle 7/8pm

This is what I've been doing lately (although she doesn't go as long, because I EBF and she's not on solids for a few more weeks), but I feel like our days have no structure, because of that, plus the crazy weirdo naps.

Um schedule? What is that? Chat Icon
She basically lets me know when she is hungry, tired, etc- (usually by extreme fussiness and/or blood curdling screams) and I feed her or put her to sleep.
She eats as much as she wants, and sleeps as long as she wants... and it's never the same twice!

She is definitely her mother's daughter- because I abhore schedules and apparantly so does she! Chat Icon

Re: 5-6 month old & schedules (esp SAHM)

omgosh i had a few weeks of that horrible schedule too. we were all over the place. i thought maybe she was going through a spurt or something. sometimes their routine gets off right before they hit a milestone. i think for me, DD started to roll over.

anyway, after 30 minutes, i would try to rock her back to sleep. most cases, it worked bc i could see she was obviously tired. when that didnt work, i either fed her (if it was at least 2.5 hrs after last feeding) or just played with her till it was time to feed. eventually, she went back to her old schedule. our day goes something like this

7am - wake and BF
play till 9am
9 - 10:30 - nap
10:30 - BF
11:30 - solids
12:30 - nap
1:30 - BF
play till 3:30
3:30 - nap (very short nap always)
4:00 - BF
5:00 -solids
6:30- bath
7 - BF and sleep

it varies a lot based on her naps. i understand exactly what you're going through.

Once you start solids she will def develop a schedule. DS was eating every 2 hours Chat Icon and once we started solids he started going 4-5 hours. Our lives are so much easier now. I can go out with him without worrying he was going to start crying to eat. DS is 6.5 months now. We started solids 2x a day at 4 months. at 5 months we started 3x a day.

I also feed solids about 15 min after bottle because to me to feed a bottle then in an hour give a solid would make it so hard to get anything done or to go out.
