Can anyone recommend a drill?
DH told me wants a drill for Christmas. I have NO idea what to buy. Any advice?

Here's what my DH says... verbatim:
"Hitachi is the highest rated drill; however, it is the most expensive drill and does not go on sale. I have one and it lives up to the rating - it's the best drill I've ever used. Makita is the #2 drill and is probably 20-50 bucks cheaper than the Hitachi. DeWalt is the old favorite of many who use drills on a daily basis for work. You can go with Craftsman (Sears' Brand) if the user isn't picky. I would go with at least 18-volt, 19.2-volt is preferred, and lithium battery is also preferred."

I am a fan of Dewalt. I have worked in construction since 96 and thats what is generally used on the jobsites. THey hold up really well.
If its just for home projects Im not sure I would spend any mroe $$ then a Dewalt or Craftsman.
Did he say what kind of drill and does he want cordless or corded?
I can post actual drill models if he can give you more info on the type of drill

no probs, he was all excited to help because he finally purchased a drill after extensively researching them. he's a real treat. lol.

All of DH's tools are DeWalt and he loves them. I've used the drill many times and like it myself.

Same here. He has a few Makita too. Can't go wrong with Dewalt!

we recently bought a Dewalt and we like it. Our contractor was over looking at something the other day and told us we bought a good one and he would have recommended that too.
I think it was like $70 at home depot, i know we had bought it on sale! HTH!

Cordless are heavier because of the battery pack and if you are drilling for a while, you need to recharge.
I have a Ryobi and a DeWalt.
Don't forget to buy the bit kit.

ITA! and the new ones come with a little light when your using it. great feature. DH swears by it, he always has a backup less expensive one, and they never compare. the dewalt has outlasted a lot of drills in our house. He worked in construction for some time and that's what they all used.
you want an 18v one and buy an extra battery to have on hand so when one is dead you can still use it.

Dewalt. Don't get anything under 18V. iIt will be underpowered. 24V is much better.
Did he ask for cordless?

Corded or cordless. Impact driver or standard drill? Is power more important, speed, weight, etc?
If he goes cordless, will he want other cordless items? I've been going with the Craftsman C3 series. Same batteries power dozens of gadgets. Other brands have similar families of tools.
If you go cordless, definitely get two batteries. Nothing worse than needing to put in two more screws and just running your only battery dead.

as ive always been a fan of DeWalt and Hitachi....i own both...
if this is just for home projects and not a job... i would recommend the Ryobi 18V. i have one an its the workhorse around the house... but absolutely get an extra battery.
there are also a dozen of tool that work with the same batter pack.
