DS is 4 months old and won't sleep in his crib

We tried last night and it just ended with the both of us in tears! I have never seen him cry so hard - it was heartbreaking.

He just LOVES his rock n' play sleeper. How old is TOO old for him to be sleeping in that? Is it bad for him to sleep in that position? I feel like maybe he's just not ready for his crib because if he was he wouldn't have any problems transitioning. IDK.

Ever since he was born he wasn't a fan of sleeping on his back. He hates being swaddled so that doesn't work.

eta - He's able to soothe himself to sleep in the rock n' play. I don't know if that matters or not.

Re: DS is 4 months old and won't sleep in his crib

My DD is 6 months old and slept in a swing until just last Sunday!!! She also would soothe herself back to sleep in her swing and slept from around 9pm to 8am!! She has reflux and the doctor said it was the best place for her to be. I also tried SEVERAL times to have her sleep in her crib as I thought she was too old to be in a swing. She SCREAMED and cried to the point you would think she was being hurt so I would put her back to the swing and she would sleep soundly. I spoke to a doctor friend who reassured me not to worry and when she was ready I would know. So true!!! She began stretching herself in the swing (something she never did) as though she was uncomfortable or needed to move around. I watched for signs for about 2 weeks and she kept doing it. I started by putting her in the crib for her naps to get her used to it for shorter periods of time. Last Sunday (she was 6 months 1 week old) I put her in her crib and was so nervous waiting for the screams. She slept all night and I watched her with a great big smile as she was all stretched out in her crib. She doesn't sleep as well, I think because she is not used to all the space but sleeps through the night with just a lot of movement. Sorry so long but I thought I would share since I felt like I was the only one!!! Good luck!

Like the PP said, I would put him in his crib during the day so he gets used to being in there.

Also, I would try the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Deep Sea Soother - http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3882066 - it made trasitioning DS into his crib a lot easier and I'm able to put him in his crib at night when he's awake but sleepy and his falls asleep to this.

My kids slept in their infant to toddler rocker for 5 mos. Initially I put the rocker in their crib with them strapped in so they would get use dto the environment. Then I switched them into the crib and they did fine.

Re: DS is 4 months old and won't sleep in his crib

My DS is 6 months and still in the Rock and Play Sleeper off and on. We're working on fixing our sleep issues at the moment. I tried transitioning him at 5 months but it was a nightmare so we started co-sleeping instead Chat Icon I think it's kind of like breaking the swaddle habit because they're so nice and cozy in it with the sides that come up. It took about a week for DS to get used to having all of the extra room while sleeping, so now we're working on getting him into the crib. Good luck!
