We celebrate Hanukkah & Christmas - WWYD?

DD is 14 months. Do you think that I should be giving her 8 nights of presents for Hanukkah and also a ton of Christmas gifts? I feel like @ 14months she won't know if she gets 8 gifts...I was thinking of giving her a gift the first night of Hanukkah (Wed) skip Thur, Friday she is sleeping @ my parents so they are giving her something, Skip Sat and Sunday my family is exchanging (aunts, cousins, etc.) so she is getting that night, skip Monday and give her something Tue & Wed and then a few gifts for Christmas of course but she will get so much also from the family for both holidays....opinions please???

I wouldn't bother. Sasha was 10 months last year at Hanukah and I tried giving her a little something each night just to unwrap and she didn't really get it. I still haven't decided what to do, or get her, and well, the holiday starts in 48 hours! I don't think she'll get it this year either-- wait another year or two to stress yourself out about it!

We celebrate both as well and I will be giving DS who is 8 months old a small gift each night of Chanukah (ex. bubbles, board book, etc.) except for the last night where we will give him one "big" gift (My Pal Scout) and then the rest of the big gifts on Christmas.

We are doing 8 small Chanukah gifts and one big one on the last night, and bigger Christmas gifts (mainly from his Christian grandparents)

We give one semi big gift the first night and the rest are given on Christmas.

I think if you're going to celebrate both - you should start celebrating them - even if it's a small token gift. That doesn't mean they all have to come from you but there is an exchange of gifts. I assume you're lighting a menorah every night?

I was raised Catholic but my grandfather used to give us money each night. The memories I have aren't so much about the gifts/money but about lighting the menorah. As for Christmas, my parents always went overboard.

I do think the commercialization of both holidays really does take away from the true meaning - and I'm just as guilty. If you want to scale back the gifts, then do it. If it were me I'd opt for lesser gifts & give one each night since the point is to celebrate 8 nights.

We don't buy them 8 nights of presents - my parents do. My grandparents did it for us and they are continuing the tradition. I think it's nice, but at 14 months she won't know the difference, if it's a tradition you want to start yuo can do it now or wait till next year when she gets it a little more Chat Icon

Ditto, we celebrate both as well. I haven't even gotten any gifts for DS yet, he has no idea that hanukah actually starts on Wed night and he's 21 months. He'll get his gifts whenever he gets them and he won't know the difference. Maybe next year or even the year after I'll start to concentrate on what my actual procedure will be, when he truly understands and can actually remember too.

I would do the smaller presents with the first nights of Hanukkah and save the 2 biggest presents for the last night and for Christmas.

Thank you.all so much. I am going to be lighting the menorah with her every night and I think if we will give her a small something every night even if it is some money into her piggy bank (letting her put the $ in)....
