Is Lindenhurst a good area?
I'm so confused. I hear so many mixed things. I want to move closer to my family and we wanted to look there because houses seem affordable. We aren't looking right now; just getting some ideas for when we can sell our current home. Do you like the area? Is it a good school district??

I grew up there and have a bunch of friends who still live there! My dad has lived there since he was 14 (he is 71). Most of my family lives there!
Anyway, if I were looking, I would not do north Lindenhurst (staying south of sunrise)
I grew up near the village and loved it there.

I like the area i grew up and live here too. I think the "better" area is in the village and its very affordable with a good sense of community. SD i think its fine but we don't have kids so it maybe best for a parent to answer that.

My DH grew up there and LOVES it. Honestly, the way he carries on about what a wonderful place it is, it's like he grew up in Disney World. It's very blue-color, down to earth type of place. Keeping up with the Joneses is a non-issue.
My DH's child goes to the schools there and I have to say the experience has been good so far. There is definitely a strong sense of community and town pride there. Plus the sports programs are supposed to be really good.
If you are going to look there, try to find a home in the Merridale Park section, which is south of the tracks and west of Wellwood. It's really nice over there.

We have lived in lindenhurst for about 7 years now. We LOVE it!!! I grew up on the north shore and was hesitant about moving to the south shore. OMG, I can't believe how wrong I was... there's so many great activities and free stuff for kids, great parks and playgrounds, schools are good.... My kids go to Alleghany Elementary and the school is fantastic. DEFINITELY look in the village... the taxes are not that much more and there are huge advantages to being in the village.

My sister lives there on the canal and I LOOOOOOVE it there. BUT she is on the canal and it isn't so fun when her street is flooded.

DH and I bought our house in Lindenhurst in 2007. We live in the village. South of Sunrise. It's a very nice area. My block is great, everyone looks out for eachother. I am happy with our choice of buying in Lindy.
