What would you do with this thing on the wall?
We are painting this hallway and the previous owner must have had this square as access to the pipes.. there's a shower behind that wall.
What would you do, leave it? Take it out & fix the wall (taking the chance that you'll have to cut into wall again if something happens with that shower)
Opinions? Thanks!

I would try to hide it. Def keep it, if you cover it it would suck to have to cut the wall. But paint it the wall color and maybe put a table, or a tall plant.

I would take the moulding off and get a nice long wall piece to hang up on that wall.. I would also suggest a table or plant but I don't know if that would interfere with anything by the door.

I would remove it and fix the wall.
It looks like three rooms open into that hallway, so adding a table or plant just doesn't seem feasible for good flow.

my previous apt had a panel just like that in the hallway, for the same reason.
I put a small hall table in front of it to help cover it up, but i can see that might not work from your picture.
I personally wouldn't want to totally remove it and close the hole up because you never know when you'll need access to your bathroom pipes and it would be useful to have the easy access already there.
perhaps you can take the molding off and put a long mirror or picture there to cover the square up?

I wouldn't remove it, but I would want to cover it. Maybe you could hang fabric or something or a tapestry?

Ditto. They make long skinny prints. I think it would look very nice.

I would remove the panel and fix it. There are so many pipes in the wall, leaving an access panel for all of them is not feasible. The vast majority of showers don't have an accessible access door.
If you do need to get in there for repairs, it's very simple to cut a hole in the wall.
I have 3 bathrooms with showers, two of them built while I owned the house, and none of them have an access panel for the shower pipes.

it really isn't that big of a deal to cut sheetrock to fix a problem unless this is a reoccurring problem which that is the case fix the pipe/replace it. I would remove it.
