Cough for 2 weeks?
Should I call the ped?
James 2 weeks ago, James started with a very runny nose when his top 2 teeth came in. Since then, the nose has dried up, but he's still coughing a lot. He coughs in his sleep and it wakes him up. Last night he was up from 1:30 until 3. Cute story, though... when he woke up, he started screaming so I went into his room - when I opened the door, he stopped crying, looked at me and said "Oh hi mama!"
So - at this point since it's been going on for a while, should I call the ped? He's also really congested in the mornings when he wakes up. I'm just worried about it turning into bronchitis or somethng worse with the winter on the horizon....

Re: Cough for 2 weeks?
Ds had a cough that wouldnt quit a few weeks ago....we took him to the ped and it was just a sinus infection and all the draining was making him cough. Hopefully its just something little like that! Hope he feels better! Id call the ped, I always do for a cough once its really persistent.

Re: Cough for 2 weeks?
Coughs seem to last forever for some reason.
Both my DC, myself and DH all had coughs and it seemed like they were here forever.
Took both kids to the ped to get checked out but it was never anything more than just a cough. DD always coughed most at night in her sleep and in the morning.
After a few weeks, it went away.
You can go to the ped to be sure, but most likely it's just a cough that is hanging around.

Re: Cough for 2 weeks?
i just posted on another mom's thread about this ...
jack has had a cough for 4 weeks, since mid october! started with a runny nose for a few days and the though cough lessened, only to return a few days later. we took him to the ped about 2 weeks in b/c he was up all night coughing. no one was sleeping. turns out he had a slight ear infection so they put him on amoxicillin. he was on it for 6 days and still coughing so we switched him to zithromax. that did the trick, mostly. no more coughing at night and his ear is clear. he still gets the crackly rattle and he has to cough to clear it but he is MUCH better! FOUR weeks
seems this is going around, the never ending cough. i would bring him in to be checked, just to be on the safe side! my ped was shocked that it took so long for jack's cough to clear up, especially since he was in antibiotics for so long!
are you using a humidifier? try that, maybe with come vicks

Re: Cough for 2 weeks?
Coughs tend to last forever - even after medication. I would be concerned if a fever presented itself or if there was a shortness of breath, labored breathing or wheezing. We spent 5h in the ER the other night and Charlie had to have 3 nebulizer treatments - she had an asthma attack
If it were me, I would go to the Dr just to rule out any ear infection, etc.

Oh man!
He is fever free, but has had nasty slimy thick green boogers coming out for a week as well (sorry )
Now that I'm thinking about it, he's been touching his ears a lot....

Re: Cough for 2 weeks?
Both my boys went through this. I would bring him in because even though JJ had no other signs of anything, our Ped gave him a ZPack for the cough & it cleared it up in 5 days
