please help with mattress search
Please give me some suggestions on how to go about purchasing a mattress. What stores do you recommend? What questions should I ask? I can lay on a mattress and tell if I like it or not but I know there are things I should ask about such as warranty, bedbugs, etc. Also, does a mattress automatically come with the box springs (i think that's what the bottom wooden part is called)? I'm a stuggling student but I'm willing to pay at least 400 b/c my back is killing me!

I would avoid Sleepy's only because it's simply a rip off.
DH and I went to two places- Macy's (when they had a sale) and also BJ's wholesale. We ended up buying from both at different times.
At Macy's you had to buy the box spring seperately and also there was two types (heights) of box springs. Also of course at Macy's they had more selections.
Always a good thing when you're trying out mattresses is to be able to lie down on them (withour your coat on) to really get a feel for them. Also take your time and shop around. Many of the better department stores carry a nice variety of mattresses. Most places offer free removal of the old mattress and boxsping as well.

You can also try Raymour and Flannigan. They have a 3 day delivery and are really helpful with any questions you may have.
The box spring you normally have to purchase separate. Most times they offer you a deal for the set.

Sleepys has slimey salespeople. I did not have a good experience with the last bed I purchased from them. With your budget though, you may want to try them because they do have very cheap mattresses.
I purchased recent mattress at Macys, good customer service and they helped us for an hour until we picked the bed we wanted. Wait for Thanksgiving sales!

Not a fan of sleepys, we got our latest one at raymour and flanigan - but it was part of a whole bedroom set we purchased. It's a stearns and fosters and we are happy with it...

Thanks everyone for your responses. I was thinking that Sleepy's would be best but after all the responses, I'm avoiding them! And I also realized that I'm going to have to up my budget b/c i really need something that's going to last and also be comfy.

Ikea sells mattresses. Don't know anything about them except they are affordable. Go test one out.

we got ours that we adore from raymour and flannigan the clearance center on 110. boxsprings are sold seperately but you can usually get a good deal if you are buying both.

Macy's has a really good sale for veterans day going on now. I got my daughter's mattress for less than half price. Might be worth checking out.

Same here. When DS gets a little older and wants a new mattress, we're definitely going back there (his current mattress is from Bob's as well). We'll also go to Bob's when we convert DD's bed from a daybed to a full.
